French actor Gaspard Ulliel, best known for playing Hannibal Lecter in "Hannibal Rising," has died at the age of 37 after a skiing accident in southeastern France.
The accident happened on Tuesday at 4 p.m. local time (10 a.m ET) at the La Rosière ski resort in the Alpine department of Savoie, according to a Wednesday statement from Albertville prosecutor's office.
After Ulliel left the top of a blue ski run, he collided with another skier and both fell to the ground, the statement said. The other skier didn't suffer any injuries.
When the emergency team arrived at the scene, Ulliel was lying still in the snow, unconscious, according to the statement.
He was airlifted to the nearby Grenoble University Hospital Center where his death was announced Wednesday afternoon.

“Propelled into the air, Schumacher fell with the right side of his head landing on another rock. Despite wearing a helmet, which shattered on impact, Schumacher was badly hurt and was bleeding profusely from his head.”
Well, there are helmets and then there are HELMETS.
Auto/Motorcycle helmets seem to be more than a bit more substantial than many Ski/Boarding Helmets.
Thanks for posting. I was unaware of this incident.
How long before he appears on the list of vaccine fatalities?
He sure did - mostly because her sugar daddy Andy just wasn't Longet enough to keep her from misbehaving.
“Did he know Claudine Longet?”
Wow, good memory, hat’s off.
I faintly remember the original news. In the last few years, I’ve seen one or two programs about the case.
Loved him in that film.
RIP...
and prayers for his family.
As it was inevitable.
No Helmet.
I’m glad you axxed.
Befuddles me too.
Funny. But with all the strokes going around, I would not rule out one of the skiers having lost consciousness prior to the collision.
My first thought, too...and she had those innocent killer looks.
He crashed and could have had a broken neck.
Hard to believe that a collision with another skier on a blue run would result in his death. Although deaths from closed head injuries are not uncommon......
Ice?
A kid I grew up was killed in a skiing accident over Christmas break when I was a high school sophomore. He was an excellent skier, along with everyone in his family.
He was the first person I ever knew who died. We (accidentally) chose the same science fair topic in sixth grade.
Or Sonny Bono? Natasha Richardson?
Michael Kennedy, the statutory rapist of the babysitter?
It's the result of the melting and subsequent freezing of snow; it takes place quite a bit in the northern states.
Mask?
