It turns out the Christian-run homes for single mothers and orphans had LOWER rates of mortality from rampant disease of the day, than society as a whole

Of course they did. Sadly, with the passing of our elders, people forget how dirty, hard and brutal life was before WWII pretty much everywhere in the world.
