I'm fairly certain I had SARS in March 2003. I had a 10 hour layover at the Salt Lake City airport enroute to San Diego. A huge group of Chinese tourists were present. The symptoms hit me after returning home. Weak, shaking, my lower extremities were swollen like a case of congestive heart failure. The ER checked for DVT and differential blood pressure on my legs. No diagnosis. They were baffled. No treatment plan. I could not put my shoes on for 90 days due to the excessive swelling. I purchased a treadmill and walked 30 minutes per day. By June, I was able to wear my shoes again.
A group on FreeRepublic had been tracking SARS in 2003. It appears the binding affinity was strongest in Chinese. People in North America showed about a 1/3 level of binding affinity. A small group with ancestry back to the Black Plague survivors had 0% binding affinity.
