he University of Michigan has fired its $927,000-a-year president for having an affair with a subordinate, a year after implementing wide sexual misconduct rules to stop people in power sleeping with their staff.
Mark Schlissel, 64, was informed in a letter on Saturday that he was being fired from the role he has held since July 2014. The university has also made public 118 pages of emails between him and the woman he had an affair with. She is not named and it's unclear how their romance came to light.
Among his pick-up lines are: 'Can I lure you to visit with the promise of a knish?’ and screenshots of take-out pizza receipts which he said were 'to whet your appetite. And tell you what's for dinner too.'

P.S. I’m not trying to rationalize or justify the affair. I’m just noting that there could be a bit more to it than we see on the surface. The guy was a year from retirement. If this kind of behavior was a pattern, it should have cropped up long before his mid-60’s. And perhaps it did, and it was ignored until now.
I think that you've identified the key (Yiddish = Schlissel) to this man's problem.

Sorry: Should read: adjective (because the subsequent noun - woman - would be feminine sing. in German).

“…delish?”
The doofus is strong with this one. From the looks of him.
His wife was apparently not keeping a close enough eye on him from her perch in San Francisco.
Yup. It starts at the top. Each school as numerous ‘Deans’ all making $175-250,000 a year. And we wonder why education is so expensive.
I am inclined to think the worst, but that’s a matter of stereotyping based on my impression of academic today.
Under any circumstances, the guy was an idiot to carry on an affair with a subordinate.
Ladies trained to take full responsibility. Well done.
Inviting someone over for a knish is sexual harassment? That’s something you would actually do to almost any friend you had.
I certainly hope there was more to it than that. Were there any actual allegations or proof of sexual activities?
“Don’t dip your pen in the company ink”
I was told “Don’t get your meat where you get your bread and butter”.
Yup, almost the same as a personal experience. Married guy working for me had office romance with lady in other department who was also married. I pointed out two things to him. First off, she was married to a guy whom he categorized as a nut. I said I hope you can draw fast when he comes in here some day and starts firing. That did not get through to him so I gave him second point of info. Consider your 750K house. Consider it and half your pension there with you not in it. That did it, it ended.
BUT...lady was also a nut. She began writing letters to his wife about their trysts. His wife must have emasculated him because he was never the same after all blew over. Went from Mr. Don Juan to Mr. Whimp.
Ugh, c’mon Doodle. I just ate breakfast! This guy couldn’t lure me with a truckload of knishes or any other “currency”. He should be ashamed of himself.
his wife probably did not care what he was doing as long as he was discreet.
Whoops.
I may be old fashioned here but I’m gonna live where my husband lives.
Back in those days women had enough dignity to look down on a female who boinked a Married Man.
The man is , of course , equally to blame... But women know the power of the P.
The power exercised by some of these victims is extraordinary.
If I had an affair, never did & never would, I would be very James bond about it.

I had no idea the German language has gendered nouns!
I’m self teaching myself Portuguese and running headlong into the whole gendered noun wall. It really takes some getting used to for an English speaker!
And I will never again wonder why foreigners find it impossible to properly construct a sentence in English. Some of my attempts in Portuguese would probably make a native speaker wonder what drugs I was on. #:/ )
When he made up those rules, he had no idea they could possibly apply to himself. And with good reason. They were never intended to take out paid-up members of the club. My bet is someone in the UM administration, no doubt of the same political ilk but with a better grounding in Machiavelli, wants that job.
