Married University of Michigan president, 64, is fired from $927,000-a-year job over affair with female subordinate under zero-tolerance rules HE created: School releases 118 pages of intimate emails that reveal how he enticed her with knish!

he University of Michigan has fired its $927,000-a-year president for having an affair with a subordinate, a year after implementing wide sexual misconduct rules to stop people in power sleeping with their staff.

Mark Schlissel, 64, was informed in a letter on Saturday that he was being fired from the role he has held since July 2014. The university has also made public 118 pages of emails between him and the woman he had an affair with. She is not named and it's unclear how their romance came to light.

Among his pick-up lines are: 'Can I lure you to visit with the promise of a knish?’ and screenshots of take-out pizza receipts which he said were 'to whet your appetite. And tell you what's for dinner too.'

A former boss of mine was told to move on for fraternizing with another employee. Neither were married, and she was not a subordinate. The affair was so sub rosa I wasn’t even aware it was going on.

My boss was well liked and respected but didn’t see eye to eye with his boss so that may have had something to do with his release. Whatever, the company was pretty good to him during his transition out so he was lucky in that regard.

Good point. And also, if she was hot there would have been a picture without me having to ask.

When you feed the staff junk food, making them overweight, won’t the rod get a little limp?

“zaftige”

Were you aiming for ZAFTIG there?
I couldn’t find a definition for zaftige but did find defs for...
Zaftig- German-Pleasingly plump, full figured.
Zaftic-Yiddish-Juicy, plump.

Or maybe zaftige is the correct spelling and zaftig is the American bastardization of the word.
Anyway, fun post. I learned a couple new words this morning!

I had a female employee who was sleeping with a guy from another department. There was nothing against company policy—but it was pretty obvious. And...she was married.

I told her that if I could figure it out, her husband—who was paying a lot more attention—could figure it out.

About a month later it came crashing down on her. I asked how her husband figured it out. She told me the boyfriend had sent her a cute little note. She read it and put it in her coin purse, not even thinking about it.

The next weekend they were at her kids hockey game. Hubby wanted a soda and didn’t have the change. She told him to grab it out of her purse. He pulled out a quarter...and the cute note.

The moral of the story is when you are constantly lying, it becomes difficult to keep the lies straight and cover all of your tracks. You WILL screw up.

I could never stand the pressure. Not worth five minutes of excitement.

Let us point out that the woman could indeed be lured by a knish, which costs about the same a Dr. Pepper and a candy bar.

It's my understanding that women don't like to be thought of as "cheap", so when this woman's name is finally leaked, Schizzle best be in some non-extradition country.

Maybe in retirement he should write a book about Yiddish sex talk and food euphemisms.

The food known as knish is delicious, a hot potato filled baked treat. My friends and I would buy this warmining treat during the typically cold Bronx winters. Yum!

Mark Schlissel: Princeton undergrad; MD/PhD from Johns Hopkins; immunology and microbiology; postdoc at MIT; taught at Johns Hopkins and Berkeley, where he eventually became Dean of Biological Sciences before moving to Brown as provost. Wife and four kids. Smart people do stupid things.

There’s no justification for the affair. That said, I can imagine several different scenarios, some sad and some deserving of as much mockery as we can muster. Schlissel’s relationship with his wife, who lives in California, and the age differential between the lovers come into play here. A lonely older man separated and essentially divorced from his wife is one thing. A horny university president who takes up with a local Kamala Harris type is another.

Sorry: Let my penchant for Hochdeutsch get away with me there for a minute, hence my declining the noun by adding an "e" at the end (in this case, for the feminine singular), as would be required for High German.

Regards,

As for what value university presidents (and administration) bring to their campus:

1. Supposedly they shmooze the haughty-taughty who make major donations.

2. In reality, they make life hell for faculty, by undermining tenure through “safe speech” codes, and by replacing full-time tenure track slots with part-time adjuncts.

3. Also, ending requirements that students take college algebra (or, calculus), a laboratory science, a foreign language, and diminishing the roles of grading and objective exams; and, instead, emphasizing rock-climbing at the student union and things like that.
