A 28-year-old New Jersey man who was next to Ashli Babbitt when she was shot by police during the siege of the US Capitol building has been arrested, authorities said Wednesday.
Thomas Baranyi, a Peace Corps member who appeared in a widely circulated clip showing his bloody hand, was busted Tuesday [01/12/2021] by FBI agents on charges of disorderly conduct and being in a restricted building, according to court documents.
Baranyi appeared in court later that day and did not dispute that he appeared in the interview, officials said. He was released on $100,000 unsecured bond and barred from entering any government buildings [except the necessary court houses].

And I see he was wearing a black baseball cap that day. That’s antifa garb. I’d speculate he was using it as a subtle signal to the other antifa who were there spurring things on, letting them know which team he was on.
Today (this evening) has been the first time that I have studied the events of January 6, 2021 -— meaning, looking into details about which I have heard, but not dug into. (With the exception of the death of Ashli Babbitt.)
Contrary to a lot of reports, I found that Lt. Michael Byrd, who shot Ashli Babbitt, was in local news back in January 2021. (But I have already misplaced the link to that story . . . mutter, mutter . . .)

The WUSA9 interview of Thomas Baranyi from New Jersey, begins at 1:19:40 and what he says, matches up with the New York Post article.
But also, re the video, is a lot of time that shows the presence of many more people, protesting, all around the U.S. Capitol. Prior to this evening, I did not know that the place was surrounded.
Self-discipline and crowd control, by the protest organizers - including President Trump - was obviously poor.
President Trump also said that he, too, would be going to the U.S. Capitol, but he did not.
The 2020 Election was his to lose; and unfortunately, he bungled it, by un-disciplined use of Twitter - repeatedly punching instead of exercising self-discipline and wisdom.
President Trump also bungled the investigation of the vote errors and fraud.
And unfortunately, President Trump did not pick enough good people to participate high up in his administration. Though he did manage to pick a few.
Yet, on January 6, 2021, Trump failed to lead, and his failure has left a lot of people in harm’s way: Thomas Baranyi for example.
the violence broke out near the Capitol before President Trump even finished speaking, because he started late.
once what looked like planned violence broke out, there was no way President Trump would be going to the Capitol.
Granted, that the Republican Party hierarchy, have almost no backbone.
Granted, that Trump’s wish for the protest, was to convey some backbone to the Reupblicans on Capitol Hill.
Ok, they finally caught this scofflaw; and, boy, do I feel safer. Now let’s go get the guy who murdered Ashli.
So one of the guys who was violently banging on doors, smashing windows, and who was obviously trying to provoke Ashley Babbit into doing something foolish (i.e. an FBI-sanctioned Antifa agent provocateur) is given a slap on the wrist and released. No invective about him being an “insurrectionist” and no months long imprisonment without due process or even access to an attorney. Seems this guy lives the same magically charmed life that Ray Epps, “scaffold guy”, the person who placed pipe bombs at DNC and RNC headquarters, and numerous others do. Just one of those things that makes you go, “Huh.”
There are areas around the highest level of offices for all three branches of the U.S. Government, where you must not go without authority.
In the video interview of Thomas Baranyi, he clearly states that he was very near Ashli Babbitt, and they were warned.
But there were so many police / security who simply had let protesters pass by and travel further into the building.
Yet, I think that Lt. Byrd messed up, largely because a lot of the security hierarchy above him also messed up:
None of the protestors with the exception of a pre-planned, representative group having the task of submitting a petition, should have made any headway into the building. And, the area National Guard should have been present.
At Lt. Byrd’s position, the armament is deadly; and that is true at the other posts - re all three branches.
Long ago, when all was peaceful, there were few to none of the fancy gadgets and barriers of the modern types, that kept people at a distance. There were also no signs indicating that TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT! (Those signs, using similar wording to get the point across, were around SAC - or verbally conveyed.)
My sympathy is with any newcomer who does not realize where the fenceline is.
There are a lot of people in Washington, DC, who imagine themselves to be “the center” of our country, and who also disdain the “average people of flyover country” as being “deplorable” members of [the media’s label] “right-wing.”
When, after decades of seeing almost exclusively, left-wing protests, it could be a shock to see actual working people show up and protest. On the liberal, left hand, the protests of 2020 (re George Floyd) were run-of-the-mill. On the conservative, right hand, the protest of 2021 (re the election lacking integrity), was an unknown to so many people in power who have spent decades laughing at Mom and Pop of middle America who are politically-incorrect.

What a lie! I saw the video. There were two security guys standing in front of the doors when these people got to this area. They just ambled away leaving the area to the ANTIFA people posing as Trump supporters. Ashli had two choices she could have made. Gone back out the way she came in or see if there was a way out down the stairs right beside her that was lined with swat team people. But no, this VETERAN thought it a good idea to jump through a broken glass panel door that had furniture barricading it on the other side. It makes absolutely no sense that this girl would do this if it were not staged.
Why didn’t all those swat team people on the stairs do something to stop these people?

She didn’t “rush through the window” because it was too high and she had to wait for people to smash the plastic posing as glass. What happened to the people that helped lift her to the, at least 3-4 foot, height necessary to position herself to jump through. Have they been arrested?
The shooting looked fake. She didn’t look like she got shot. She looked like she fell back limply ON CUE. No blood splatter, no pool of blood, looked like a very poor high school play death scene.
I think Ashli is/was a crisis actress and part of the whole “insurrection scam”. If she is really dead, they killed her later. The fact that the coroner cremated her body two days later without giving it to the family SPEAKS VOLUMES.
Exactly. My guess is they’re arresting this guy to muddy the waters some. It puts him back in the news and gets his interview played. His spiel about breaking down barricades and “blitzing” (nice word choice) the corridors paints a picture that’s useful for them. And the fact that they didn’t throw him in the clink like they did the others may be useful somehow too. Hard to tell exactly what’s up but it has the feel of narrative reinforcement plus misdirection and plausibility games.
Trump was not one of the organizers of the rally at the Eclipse on January 6. IIRC it was organized by a group called something like “Women for Trump.” If Trump’s people had organized it, as they had for so many rallies, it would have been much better organized. I do not know anyone who literally expected Trump to march, or even drive, to the Capitol while 100,000 to 200,000 people were filling the mall.
