Ok, they finally caught this scofflaw; and, boy, do I feel safer. Now let’s go get the guy who murdered Ashli.
There are areas around the highest level of offices for all three branches of the U.S. Government, where you must not go without authority.
In the video interview of Thomas Baranyi, he clearly states that he was very near Ashli Babbitt, and they were warned.
But there were so many police / security who simply had let protesters pass by and travel further into the building.
Yet, I think that Lt. Byrd messed up, largely because a lot of the security hierarchy above him also messed up:
None of the protestors with the exception of a pre-planned, representative group having the task of submitting a petition, should have made any headway into the building. And, the area National Guard should have been present.
At Lt. Byrd’s position, the armament is deadly; and that is true at the other posts - re all three branches.
Long ago, when all was peaceful, there were few to none of the fancy gadgets and barriers of the modern types, that kept people at a distance. There were also no signs indicating that TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT! (Those signs, using similar wording to get the point across, were around SAC - or verbally conveyed.)
My sympathy is with any newcomer who does not realize where the fenceline is.
There are a lot of people in Washington, DC, who imagine themselves to be “the center” of our country, and who also disdain the “average people of flyover country” as being “deplorable” members of [the media’s label] “right-wing.”
When, after decades of seeing almost exclusively, left-wing protests, it could be a shock to see actual working people show up and protest. On the liberal, left hand, the protests of 2020 (re George Floyd) were run-of-the-mill. On the conservative, right hand, the protest of 2021 (re the election lacking integrity), was an unknown to so many people in power who have spent decades laughing at Mom and Pop of middle America who are politically-incorrect.
