Inspired by a recent episode of Hulu's Letterkenny, I tried every Canadian Caesar the characters make on the show.
Letterkenny, a fast-talking comedy series about the residents of a rural Canadian town, recently dropped its tenth season on Hulu. If you have already watched it, you know that in the second episode, while Wayne and McMurray do some dickering at the car dealership, the rest of the town participates in a Caesar-building contest. No, they weren't making salads, but more fitting for the setting (Canada and, more specifically, MoDean's): a competition of Caesar cocktails.
Similar to a Bloody Mary, a Canadian Caesar also includes clam broth, and the four versions presented in the episode, developed by creator and star Jared Keeso, got me seriously craving one. Or, as Daryl would say: Hard to see a Caesar and not want a Caesar. In fact, I decided to try them all and rate them from least to most wondrous.
Each Caesar recipe includes a base, booze, boosters (no more than three, according to the contest rules), garnishes (also no more than three), and a rim. I did my best to gather the ingredients, often highly specific, and although I didn't always match the item exactly, I stayed as close to the spirit of the concoction as possible. Now pitter patter, let's get at 'er.
4. The Skids
Base: ½ Clamato juice, ½ V8
Booze: 3 ounces gin
Boosters: Horseradish, lemon juice, piri-piri sauce
Garnish: Jumbo cocktail shrimp, Dungeness crab leg, oyster
Rim: Soy sauce, celery salt, lemon pepper

Canadian Caesar is what Li’l Justin sees in the mirror every morning, dressed in his toga and laurel wreath, as is the native custom of the Caesarians.
Those are some of the most hideous concoctions I’ve ever seen.
The Canadian video “Girl Drink Drunk” has drinks that would but the Caesars to shame. It is an old “Kids in the Hall” skit.

Only in looks... the Caesar is way better in taste especially with plenty of Frank’s Red Hot sauce and Worcestershire.
For the record, LetterKenny is based on town a couple hours west of Toronto called Listowel... know the town well and is was a pretty good depiction of it.
I've been dry for a year and a half, an even more outstanding value, but it used to be a fun team building exercise to work overtime 6-10 then run over and try to get our money's worth.

Anything that mentions only “clam broth” in the initial list of ingredients sounds completely disgusting. The actual recipes and pictures did nothing to redeem my original impression.
Not really a gin fan, but the gin and lime juice the girl who was in the Broadway show of Hair plied me with in Vegas are lasting memories. 🙂
It would be fun trying all four versions to pick a personal favorite.
It would be even more fun creating a favorite version of one’s own.
Since I no longer drink, all I can do is shed a tear while my mouth is watering at the same time.
Whatever the version, have one for me please!😎
