At the beginning of the Pandemic - residential food streams were hit because people quit eating out. Food made for restaurants had to be diverted to grocery stores.
Now, the reverse is happening. Food going to grocery stores is being diverted to restaurants. And, neither Grocery Stores nor Restaurants are getting all they need.
Our little independent grocery store usually gets products from Basha’s (AZ grocery chain) the owner told me a few weeks ago that Basha’s has not been able to fulfill their orders.
Not true, all of the food destined for institutional use (cafeterias, restaurants, etc.) is processed in different facilities using different packaging and cannot be repurposed into the consumer supply chain (at least not efficiently and effectively enough), so it went to waste. then lack of containers for both supply chains hit along with lack of stored food product due to lack of use and ability to store harvests; drained what was in storage and now we have shortages in both areas because we have not replenished storage stock because farmers were told to till their crops under as there was nowhere to send them for processing.
This is a complex issue involving a multitude of supply chains, not just from the farm to the grocer or the table or the restaurant.
An even BIGGER chunk of the food being re-directed would be to our Publik Skrewels.
Now that most classes are back to ‘in person learning’ Taxpayers are back to paying for food for the kids for three meals a day - plus snacks!
Many places now the unfakevaxxed can’t eat out. Now they will have a hard time buying food and eating in.
And no, republicans, quit saying Biden needs to fix this.
This IS his fix! And we are stuck with more years of this . Thanks Pence.
