The U.S. Army’s annual unconventional warfare exercise Robin Sage is set to kick off across rural North and South Carolina this month, pitting Special Forces candidates against simulated guerillas fighting for the fictional nation of “Pineland.” The exercise is so realistic and spans such a large area that the U.S. Army has issued notices to local law enforcement agencies warning them not to mistake the exercise for a real insurrection, an error that has cost one soldier his life during a previous Robin Sage event.
Robin Sage is conducted annually by the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (SWCS) at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. This year’s Robin Sage will take place from January 22 to February 4 and will span across 25 counties in North Carolina and three counties in South Carolina. The exercise was first held in 1974 and is the culmination exercise (CULEX) — the final test in the U.S. Army’s Special Forces Qualification Course standing between candidates and their green berets. An Army release given to local outlets in NC and SC this week said that the exercise is designed to represent an “environment of political instability characterized by armed conflict, forcing Soldiers to analyze and solve problems to meet the challenges of this “real-world” training.”
The exercise is designed to simulate a special forces-led guerilla campaign against the forces of the “United Provinces of Atlantica,” a fictional island off America’s eastern seaboard. Candidates embed themselves with mock guerillas fighting on behalf of the “Republic of Pineland,” a United States ally. Members of the 1st Batallion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group have even published a 157-page fictional “history” book that provides a worldbuilding backstory for the exercise, titled Atlantica: A Concise History.

Why don’t they do an exercise where they fight against domestic communist traitors?
“ Why don’t they do an exercise where they fight against domestic communist traitors?”

Well they won’t be in My County but getting close enough that if they get “Lost” or Off Course a Click or Degree or so that could change...Let’s hope they all have good Map and Compass Skills. And GPS.
The headline is deceptive and misleading. In the execrise, the SF is supporting the insurrection.
Ping.
A baby could see through what this is all about.
This is a pure propaganda move on the part of FedGov to keep focusing on U.S. citizens, of the wrong political persuasion, as “the enemy”. It’s a pathetic intimidation tactic. It won’t work. It won’t provide cover for the pathetic performance of the Potato in Chief.
They claim they are.
“ They’re prepping for the wrong insurrection.”

I’m not worried about liberals using our military to put down civilian protesters. The overwhelming majority of special ops troops and elite combat units are conservative. And, since the end of the draft their demographic has become more legacy in mix; meaning these troops have families, parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, neighbors, etc, etc, that have served. And, there’s no way they will fire on their own kind. Liberals are delusional if they think they will.
The headline was intended to be provocative but this training has literally been going on for decades. Local PD and citizens are involved too.
No one seems to realize that this is done every year for the training of the special forces troops, i.e., green berets.
“Robin Sage tasks special forces candidates with applying a broad set of skills to unconventional warfare scenarios taking place in a highly complex environment. According to the Department of Defense, unconventional warfare, or UW, describes the use of military forces not to destroy or disable enemy forces outright, but instead to bolster or create resistance movements or insurgencies that can disrupt, or overthrow a government or occupying power. This is typically done by operating alongside or through guerrilla forces or clandestine assets in a hostile or contested area.”
Deputy Who Shot Troops Talks to Media
Feb. 26. 2002
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) _ A sheriff’s deputy said he believed his life was in danger when he mistakenly killed one soldier and wounded another during their Green Beret training exercise.
Deputy Randall Butler said the soldiers were in civilian clothing, and he had no way of knowing they were taking part in a role-playing exercise when he shot them.
“I feared that they were trying to kill me,” Butler told The Charlotte Observer in Wednesday’s editions. “I have known in the past that soldiers would be training in our wooded areas. Never have I known them to come out in public like this.”
In Saturday’s accident, 1st Lt. Tallas Tomeny was killed and Sgt. Stephen Phelps was wounded. Phelps was in fair condition Tuesday, Army officials said.
Even as ambulances and more police officers arrived at the scene, Butler said, the soldier he wounded did not mention the exercise.
“He never said a word,” Butler said. “He didn’t even budge.”
Army officials said Tuesday they have adopted new procedures in Green Beret training in the wake of the deadly mix-up.
Among the changes, soldiers will no longer wear civilian clothes during role-playing exercises outside Fort Bragg, and no role-playing will involve civilian law enforcement agencies, said Col. Charles King, commander of the 1st Special Warfare Training Group, Airborne.
Military officials said the shooting resulted from a breakdown in communications. Butler, who was unaware of the off-base exercise, stopped a pickup carrying two soldiers who were wearing jeans and flannel shirts and carrying a duffel bag containing a disassembled rifle.
The soldiers apparently thought the deputy was part of their role-playing exercise and tried to disarm him, officials said.
Butler will not be charged.
In addition to the changes in procedures, Army officials have met in person with sheriff’s departments in each county where the exercises occur, King said.
The Special Forces also will conduct an internal investigation to determine what can be done to prevent such accidents, King said.
Training will continue in the current “Robin Sage” exercise, the final step in the qualification course for soldiers seeking the coveted Green Beret. Robin Sage is run four times a year in central North Carolina. The current exercise ends Sunday.
I seem to remember some serious chatter within high levels of certain branches of military regarding the training of Troops during a time of civilian unrest. Kent State murder of a student by a National Guard “ soldier “ was one of the incidents raised in the forums. So many memories in a string of forgotten times
Because they are psychologically preparing American soldiers to kill American citizens based on their political beliefs. Next it will be parents who attend school board meetings.
This type of combat is what Green Berets do - you don’t send them in against columns of tanks. We’re also not going to do most of they’re training anywhere but in the US.
