I was born and raised in Lauderdale.
Directly behind our house was a Rockpit that had
a number of gators in it.
Our whole family spent many a day swimming in that “gator infested” pit and we’re never bothered.
Dogs use to go missing but never a human .. not even small children.
I have to take out the trash. Wish me luck as I venture outdoors in bear-infested Oregon.
I was raised in Ft. Lauderdale too. Grad Plantation High. We came from Clewiston in 1961. Lived in Broadview Park. The Rock pit, or one of them were a stone's throw away.
Lived in and on the 84 canal. (And Lake Okeechobee) Swimming, fishing and crabbing with the gators.
Until Uncle Sam called. Ever hunt gators?
