One of the funniest and saddest things for this Yankee was driving through Charlotte NC the day after they got five or six inches of snow.
There were cars off the highway all over the place. Not bad accidents, but on the median strip, off of exits, and spin outs.
If you live down south and it snows where it doesn’t usually snow…just stay off the roads. It will melt in a day or so.
You don’t want someone like me driving through and laughing.
Step 1: Go to Walmart. doesn’t matter why; doesn’t matter if you went yesterday. Everyone you know will be there.
Step 2: While there you might as well get a couple gallons of milk, 3 dozen eggs, 4 loaves bread [or rolls if you waited too long] and 36 rolls of toilet paper[ and limit use at home: remember what happened last time it snowed an inch!]. And bottled water...lots of bottled water...line the bottom of your buggy with it.
Step 4: buy hamburger, chili beans, peanut butter, jelly: grape is preferred.
Step 5: if there’s time, look for batteries to use in the flashlight you hope you can find.
Welcome to snow in the South. Settle in for 24 hours of sheer horror.
Mind telling us here in the Lowcountry ( Charleston area ) what is this all about? Worst we can find in the forecast is rain/freezing rain in Columbia on Sunday. Nothing south or directly west of I-95.
It looks like Charleston, SC will just be getting rain this weekend.
>Black ice is ice. There is no traction on a regular car that is going to negotiate that.
Those of us who have sense and all-wheel drive cars know that when it comes to traction on black ice, 4X0=0
My question is he referring to a forecasted winter storm in the next couple of days or one this weekend?
and dont forget your drinking glove for, holding your beer ..
This weekend.
Get a big pickup truck with an empty bed. Get as big and wide a set of tires and wheels as you can possible find. I see people do this in Utah. Very amusing.
They are precisely why I just stay home. They're the first ones to crash and I prefer to stay out of their way. LOL It's just for a couple of days until the icy stuff melts so no biggie to sit it out.
If someone tells you they are an expert on driving on ice—stay out of their vehicle!
Yep
I used to take the outside wheels off my dually in winter when we lived in northern rockies sometimes just so my tires would dig in more
Back in Texas and I drove in the mess last Feb and did fine, however I felt like i was playing asteroids dodging the people who had zero idea what they were doing.
I spent 5-6 months a year for nearly ten driving on compacted snow and ice and it takes a long time to get the feel for it
We had some freezing rain here in Indiana last Saturday. My neighbor (who’s from Buffalo and should know better) rolled his pickup truck a half mile down the street from our houses and it was totalled. Although his son was taken to the hospital for checkout, he’s ok now.
Get real. You are not living in the Artic.
Buy a little extra groceries. Stay home until it passes in a day or two or even less hours.
That is absolutely true, and not just in the South.
Thank you. I was wondering what the panic was for and now I know.
As one who loved for more than 50 years in Massachusetts, moving to Georgia was the best move I ever made. As for the snow I just stay home. Of course I work from home anyways so no big deal.
Also deflate the tires a little; don’t drive on hard tires.
Can’t say for sure but expect that’s what we would do here in Florida.
I’ll never forget sitting at an intersection and watching two guys in an empty pickup with huge wheels rotating 360 degrees while sliding through the intersection in 2 feet of snow with eyes as big a saucers. Lol.
For ice you need chains. Or better yet, stay home.
