My brother was diagnosed professionally as a sociopath at age 13 in 1969.

He died of a drug overdose at 50. He never changed his entire life. In and out of jails and prison for various offenses from drugs to assault, attempted rape.

He could be sweet as sugar when he wanted something, and as vindictive and destructive as a hurricane if he did not get it......

Ok, I do believe you. But in the 1980s they changed the terms Sociopath and Psychopath. There is even a test to determine if you truly are one. My wife and I had a fight over this about ten years ago. She got her psychology degrees in the eighties. But since then people did a great deal of research and defined the two words clinically. So a sociopath of 1969 would have a different meaning today. Like autism or dementia both have different meanings today. There are lots of books on this topic. And I am sure your family went through hell living in the same house as your brother.

Back in the day most people would think of a psychopath as violent. And yes, they could kill you. But most don’t. They don’t want to go to jail. Even if they would have no remorse killing someone. They are often far too cleaver. Being a psychopath does not mean you are criminal or violent, just that you don’t care if others live or die or are harmed. You care about yourself only.
