The United States Mint has started distributing quarters featuring the image of Maya Angelou , making the poet and activist the first (b)lack woman to appear on US currency.

“Each time we redesign our currency, we have the chance to say something about our country, what we value and how we’ve progressed as a society,” US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said.

Angelou is depicted with outstretched arms on the quarter. Behind her are a bird in flight and a rising sun, images inspired by her poetry. […]

The US mint is planning to issue 20 quarters over four years honoring women and their achievements.

Other women set to appear on the coins include Sally Ride, the first American woman in space; Wilma Mankiller, first female principal chief of the Cherokee Nation; Nina Otero-Warren, a suffrage leader; and Anna May Wong, a Chinese-American film star. …

Masto is a POS and if NV did not make election fraud permanent, a challenger should be able to beat her.

When they come out with “new” quarters, are they
pulling in an equal amount of old quarters?
If not then there you are.

Extraordinary popular delusions and the madness of crowds.
Should be required reading.

I was under the impression that living people could not be depicted on American currency. The others have died, but Maya Angelou is still alive.

Nice poem, very funny. Made me think of Bernard Mcgurk channeling Maya Angelou back in the day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBwSKPCwCmA

Pick up a 1970 quarter and a 2021 quarter and you'll notice a difference in weight. Hell, try it with a penny that'll shock you.

Not only are they putting out more coins there the basing the currency itself by using zinc metal. Used to be a kid swallowed a penny it was no big deal because it was copper but now they swallowing with it's mostly zinc they can get seriously ill zinc poisoning.

I know entertainers are usually not on coins or currency, but a poet kind of fits in that category.

But if they were going to go that route, I think if they had put Aretha Franklin on the quarter, there would be just about universal praise.

They could have chosen the poet Phyllis Wheatley instead.

An outstanding choice. Of all the damage academia has done to the nation with its woke fascism, the damage to itself via the murder of actual scholarship is the longest-term loss.
