Why is it that she can’t answer the questions? Who is she protecting? Is she committing a crime while denying knowledge? Can she be held accountable in the future? How many people will die or innocently jailed by her denial of the truth?

She can’t answer it because the answer is “yes,” and that would blow a gaping hole in the narrative they’ve been laying. Even worse, it would let the whole country know that the FBI is a rogue organization.

And the answer to Senator Cruz, the Ivy League lawyer and championship debater, who argued before the Supreme Court and thus would instantly jump on this opening to ask that exact follow-up question is .... ?

How can we compel the FBI to answer? Only way is to threaten to withhold funding, which isn’t possible with Dems in charge?

This is such bullshit.

The FBI is not only as bad as the KGB, they are working hard on exceeding the KGB in evil acts.
What’s name will go down in infamy .

Senators have a lot of authority. And Ted really wants this level of attention. All he has to do is put that person into jail for contempt of congress, and then in a few days ask the exact same questions.

It would be the end of this Assistant Director’s career. Either he turns on those around him and says they were incompetent or liars or worse, or he retires in a cloud with his pension in question.

You’re so cute. You think a US senator can jail someone for contempt on his own authority.

Not that simple

“.....
Following a contempt citation, the presiding officer of the chamber is instructed to refer the matter to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia; according to the law it is the duty of the U.S. Attorney to refer the matter to a grand jury for action.
.....”

You really think the current DOJ would do anything?

Ted is after headlines, and that’s how he can make headlines. The witness ends up in jail on contempt until the DOJ decides what to do. Oliver North was threatened with this kind of contempt until he swung a deal for immunity from prosecution.

It is not a trial.
There is no prosecution.
The actors having authority to file charges and prosecute are bad actors.
Durham may be an exception, but does not seem promising to date.

The DOJ still has to cooperate even to incarcerate. The Congress has no real detention system it has control of. It had a jail cell it one time.

In 1927, Congress didn’t rely on the justice department to punish those held in contempt of congress. The had their own jail, manned by the capital police, when those who were charged with contempt could be detained. The Sergeant-at-Arms did the arrest. Last time they did this was during the Teapot Dome scandal. The brother of the, then, secretary of state refused an order to testify, and the Sergeant-at-Arms went to his home and arrested him, and he was held in this jail until he agreed to testify.

We can assume if the answer was “no”, that wouldn’t be classified information, so that answer is a definite “yes”.

“Who or what is the DOJ?”

Oh I know this. That’s the branch of the federal government whose job it is to protect the rest of the federal government from ever being prosecuted for their crimes.

‘She indicated it was because she couldn’t reveal “sources and methods.”’

So, at minimum, she has admitted he was a confidential informant in the employ of the FBI or some other intelligence agency.

Well, it all depends on his resolve, and how willing he is to endure the attacks of the federal bureaucracy, Congress, the media, and the lawfare from the left. Last time around he caved to that pressure at some very key points and it resulted in some disasters for him.

If he doesn’t cave to that pressure he could exert his power in a lot of ways that might seem unusual nowadays but are completely within the authority of the President. All the Executive Branch is under his control, he could dissolve any of those agencies and create new ones with the stroke of a pen. He is also the Commander-in-Chief and can remove any military officer and promote anyone else to command with the stroke of a pen. He can declassify and unilaterally release any information that has ever been classified by the federal government. There are even many methods he could use to circumvent Congressional intervention in things like appointments to certain positions. All this depends on how much pushback he is willing to weather.

The Executive Branch may be comparatively the weakest branch of government, but in the Presidency is still the most amount of power invested in any one person in the entire government. Most simply choose not to use that power, or to use it very carefully.
