Dwayne Bernard Hickman, an actor, producer and television director best known for his starring role in the 1950s and ’60s sitcom “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis,” died of complications related to Parkinson’s disease on Sunday. He was 87 years old.

Hickman’s death was confirmed to Variety by the actor’s public relations head Harlan Boll.

Born on May 18, 1934 in Los Angeles, Calif., Hickman began screen acting at a young age with appearances in “The Boy With the Green Hair” and 1940’s “The Grapes of Wrath.” As a teenager, he starred as Chuck MacDonald in “The Bob Cummings Show,” acting alongside the titular comedian across the sitcom’s four-year run.

The best modern version of this is the appearance of Selena Gomez in The Big Short.

She’s had a fascinating, if not exhausting life.
Tuesday was very reasonable about Child Support payments;
willing to settle for ‘$100.00 a month from that director!!!
Contrast that to what actor John (Dukes of Hazzard) Schneider has been put through by one of his ex-wives. She has even sent him to jail for not paying increased amounts for his adult kids. Some judge stupidly agreed with her b/c shes the mother.

Oliver Hardy used to get an exasperated look on his face whenever Stan Laurel would doing something crazy Ollie would turn towards the audience with a look of “Can you believe this’’.

Why do you think Rush was being uncomplimentary? I would think Tucker would have liked the comparison.

Tuesday Weld was only on for the first season, as I recall, when the program aired on Tuesdays. It was switched to Wednesdays in the last

It was such a joy and a privilege working with Dwayne, a true professional, a good man, a fine talent, a generous actor (always playing the straight man and giving us the laugh lines), and still one of the funniest and people I’ve ever known. 2/4

I remember Daryl and Darrel.

My brother and I told the Stewardess on our flight from Boston to L.A. that was our names. Actually, that was what we long laughingly called our other brothers. There were 4 of us.

A week later, we returned home back to Boston, and we got the same Flight Crew. They called us Daryl and Darrel during the entire flight. It was very fun.

Yes, Patty Duke’s TV Dad.

Also LOVED Doris Packer as Chatsworth Osborne Jr’s mother with her catch phrase, “You NASTY boy!” Best line/actor in the series!

She also played Mrs. Rayburn, the principal of Beaver’s school in Mayfield on Leave it to Beaver

Bob Hope did it, too, in his movies - broke the 4th wall.

Mel Brooks broke the “4th wall” a lot. In an interview he said it started when he was working in the Catskills(?) at a theater/resort type place.

He was a busboy or waiter or something at the dinner theater, but also something like the third backup actor. So the first two guys end up sick so he gets up to play the part. Plays some old guy with a hat and fake beard.

He gets up on stage and I don’t know if the crowd jeered him because he was so short, flubbed his lines or what.

So he pulls down his beard and lifts up his hat, turns to the crowd and says something like “Whad-ya want!? I’m fourteen!”

That got a huge laugh and won the crowd over, and he used it ever since.
