I would not have washed out all the color in the pictures, and if she wanted to echo historical royal portraits, I would have gone for a House of Stuart/Restoration (Charles I and Charles II) look as an homage to her father-in-law Charles. All warm colors and lighting and her brunette hair curled to echo the portraits of Charles II and his long brunette wig. Something like this without the hat.

In consideration of the fact the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge are known as modern royalty what you have suggested does not reflect on the newer face of the British Monarchy
