Search-and-rescue volunteers discovered the body of Rory Angelotta, 43, near a residential neighborhood and roughly 3 miles from the boundaries of the Northstar Ski Resort, the Placer County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Saturday.
Over six days, more than 200 people searched for Angelotta using skis, snowmobiles and a helicopter before suspending the effort. During that period, a freak storm caused whiteout conditions, subfreezing temperatures and dumped over 7 feet of snow.
The sheriff's office said because Angelotta had traveled a “considerable distance” from the resort, the area where his body was found near a residential area in the town of Truckee was not included in the initial search area.

Really? I think Truckee is charming and the area, especially west toward Donnie Lake, is glorious. But it’s definitely a place where nature is in charge, and those who forget that can bear a heavy price
Cold will kill you.
I hate winter.

Yes and yes.
“Cold will kill you.”
Yes, it will and it’s pretty hard on gardens and field crops - in case you might want to eat any of those things.
I’ve never actually been there, and sure it’s beautiful in those parts. I’ve only read about the Donner party while in high school and that history happened in 1846 - scary story that left an impression. Things have definitely changed since then. I think I would only go there in the summer. :-)
Yep, “tree wells.” Happens once in a while even inside ski area boundaries. Someone runs into a tree and gets buried, sometimes head-down, in the deep snow surrounding a tree. The worst thing is to be knocked unconscious by the impact and end up upside down under the snow. Many suffocate that way.
It’s amazing how deep snow can be in some places. I used to ski the back bowls at Vail once in a while, and the snow was often so deep that if you didn’t have ankle straps securing your skis, they would just be lost for good if they came off. The brakes that are enough to stop skis on normal runs were useless in that deep powder.
Yep, they told us about all the skis they find every spring. Brakes dont work in piwder.
“For those of you in Rio Linda it means the guy croaked’’.
Did Claudine Longet kill him?
LOL. Quick somebody go find her.( I think she lives in Aspen, Co.)
How I miss the sick mind of Michael O'Donoghue.
