The incident took place at a popular tourist attraction

At least two people are dead and several injured after a massive rock formation collapsed on top of three boats in Brazil in an incident that was captured on video and posted on social media.

Brazilian authorities have confirmed the incident which happened in the city of Capitolia in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais on Saturday...

In the video posted on Twitter, a large portion of a cliff can be seen crashing into the water at a popular tourist attraction along the Rio Grande river, directly on top of several boats as horrified onlookers screamed.

[F]irefighters believe a sudden downpour of rain caused the rocks to become dislocated and fall into the river.

At least 15 people have reportedly been injured and it is believed that each boat involved was carrying 12 to 20 people, including children.

Avoidable. If only these victims wore masks

No, they'll blame this one on "global warming". Supporting rock probably just melted according to the 'experts'.

What’s with not helping survivors?

Makes me wonder if they didn’t do something to help the rock fall and are fleeing to not get caught.

See G? The first instinct of most Americans is to help. It’s what Americans do.

Any Piranha waiting in the water?

That would suck have the rocks miss, and get eaten alive.

Mathematically what are the chances of this happening and multiple people getting killed?

Just goes to show you that near impossible can always happen. And certain power plants can indeed turn into massive radioactive dirty bombs.

Interesting the way the boats just sped away from the scene with no regard for the victims.

Really?

May God bless their souls and their families. This is horrifying.

‘Never seen a “rockfall” like this before.’

It’s a toppling-type failure. I saw one of similar size happen in an open-pit copper mine years ago. No warning, but no injuries or damage.

Gravity never takes a day off.

In my experience, selflessness is not a universal human virtue.

Missing means the bodies are buried under rock at the bottom.

I can understand if they were afraid of more collapses, but they just kept going...

IOW, it happened the same way the canyon was formed in the first place.

I would guess they were afraid other rocks would come done on them. The rock formation was shedding smaller rocks prior to “calving”;;;...My guess, is that the victims didn’t notice, or wanted to look closer at the falling smaller rocks...very sad outcome.

except the peeps would be hyperventilating their heads off in the freezing water. I have read that the first reaction to severe hypothermia, if conscious, is hyperventilating.

You can see at least 3 bodies tossed in the air from the explosive forces of the mass of stone hitting the water. Coud have easily been 15 or more.

Just WoW !
