"Mattress Mack," also known as Houston furniture store owner Jim McIngvale, has placed a $1.2 million bet on the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide (+125) to defeat the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff National Championship (Jan. 10, 8 p.m. ET on ESPN).

Should he win the bet, placed through Caesars Sportsbook, McIngvale would win $1.5 million.

Mattress Mack said Georgia (-3) being listed as an early favorite got his attention and created a promotion at his stores tied to Alabama.

I was wearing a red shirt today. It was an alumni shirt for the Yokohama High Red Devils, but Alabama graduates generally are not careful readers 😁

And this is really interesting. Note the timing of the CDC's quarantine change announcement. From a couple of days ago...

CDC to update school quarantine guidance, Alabama officials ‘frustrated’ by changing recommendations

Well, speaking of ‘Roll Tide’.

I know the ‘Bama cheerleaders used to have ‘Roll Tide’ printed on the back of their panties, and at some point in a game the camera would zoom in while a cheerleader flipped up the back of her skirt. Roll Tide indeed (even though I wasn’t a real ‘Bama fan, I enjoyed the view).

Mattress Mack bet $2.4-million on a horse in this year’s Kentucky Derby. The horse lost.

Georgia just always seems to loose to Bama. Back in 1976 Georgia in Athens did win; 21-0. I was there standing on the bridge. Free to stand there. Athens had lots of parties that evening. UGA May have won the game once since then. I expect Bama to win this time as well. Bama’s QB is a superior product. Bama wins by 4 points. I really think UGA needs to hire a flying saucer to take the Bama Team to another dimension and get them used to floating in weightlessness. Coming back to Earth might be a depressing letdown.

Defense wins championships, or so the cliche says. But there is another cliche, the best defense is the more potent offense, or something to that effect. I won’t watch it in any event. Another all SEC national championship doesn’t appeal to most fans outside of that region..
so watch the powers by that be make sure doesn’t happen again.

Dawg fan, but realist. Saban knows how to win with ordinary. Saban excels with good. He’s unbeatable with great.

Georgia on paper may actually have a better whole team, but in big games they seem to forget that it’s not just four quarters, it’s a full on sixty minutes and don’t take your eyes off the ball. And for Pete’s sake, don’t fumble, turnover, or get a daggum personal foul at exactly the most crucial time.

I’m not sure i can watch the whole game. Can’t handle the cardio effects.

Crimson Tide Story

At the 1907 Iron Bowl in Birmingham, Alabama held the heavily-favored Auburn (at the time) at a 6-6 tie. The game was played in a sea of crimson mud and the Alabama players’ white uniforms were stained crimson. As a sports editor for the Birmingham Age-Herald, Hugh Roberts, left the field, he described Alabama as a Crimson Tide. Sports writers then popularized the name and it’s stuck ever since.

“Being a Michigan fan, I also kinda knew they would fall flat against Georgia and they did”

as a YUGE Georgia fan, i was stunned at Michigan’s lackluster performance ... I thought this would be a close game, but Georgia totally dominated Michigan for the entire game ...

Not a fan of Michigan or Georgia when I saw the size of the Georgia players vs Michigan I knew it was over. Georgia is huge. I hope Georgia beats Bama. Just tired of Bama every year. But I do like Nick Saban. He is a winner.

“Georgia is huge. I hope Georgia beats Bama. Just tired of Bama every year.”

yep ... Georgia IS yuge! Alabama basically has always won by having the biggest, strongest and fastest linemen on both sides of the ball (they always looked more like an NFL team instead of a college team), so maybe THIS time Alabama will finally meet their match ...
