W.C. Field's recipe for the "perfect Martini" was to 'fill a glass with cold gin, then cast the shadow from a bottle of vermouth, once, lightly, over the top of the glass.'

I prefer the Montgomery, named after the British field marshall of the same name. Monty was too timid to attack unless he outnumbered the enemy by 15-to-1, and "the Montgomery" is 15 parts gin to one part vermouth.

You can always tell a bar where they serve Montgomerys because the drink is so dry, they don't have urinals in The Gent's, they have dustbins.

Oh, and Ian Fleming was a philistine. There is NO VODKA in a Martini, and you should NEVER bruise distilled spirits (stirred, ever so gently, not shaken).
