Ane New York City is underwater. We just aren’t woke enough to see it yet.
But it’s unusually warm snow.
People who go out in weather like that, especially unprepared, deserve what they get.
When the NWS forecasts that much snow that far in advance, it is wisdom to take note and get ready for it and stay put.
One factor that is rarely mentioned in weather forecasting is the certainty of an event happening. For some reason, it is not usually mentioned, but I have come to notice that, especially with nor’easters, the further out they forecast it, the more likely it is to happen.
Now, granted, the exact storm track and total snowfall amounts are still subject to variation depending on the exact storm track, but still, sometimes conditions in the atmosphere are very stable and allow for more accurate forecasting.
Technically, this storm did not qualify as a nor’easter but when the storms come across from out west, when they reach the Atlantic coast, they in effect behave just like one. So it doesn’t have to be an actual nor’easter to get what those Mid-Atlantic states got.
This is a pic of me driving my truck last APRIL in Massachussets
Which actually makes it worse.
Snow at freezing or above can be very wet and heavy and ice up very quickly.
What was hilarious about this is that the climate obsessors blamed Gov-elect
Youngkin who won’t be sworn in til the 15th............Northam is still governor.
I thought there were supposed to be palm trees and alligators in Minnesota by now.
The worst is freezing rain.
On Christmas Day in southern NH is was raining.
Yet, the ground temperature was in the high 20’s.
The air temp above was in the high 30’s.
I went through four 50# bags of rock salt and a bag of calcium chloride. Plus I spread sand. I supported the local economy by purchasing the same amount the day after Christmas.
The real JOY of the day was driving to pick up my Mother in law and Father in law with my 4WD studded snow tire pick up.
My MIL is/was petrified of the slope on my driveway. My wife drove them back home because I purposely had more than 2 alcoholic beverages.
Any data out there on numbers/fate of Teslas and other e-vehicles during this event?
Her childhood was stolen by activist adults.
How much of the problem in Virginia stems from not having snow plow drivers?
Their "excuse" is that it started as rain so they couldn't "pre-treat" the roads. But they sure could have salted them and plowed them.
Where was our vaunted Transportation Secretary?
Yes, they don’t usually need snow plows. But, I heard (have not verified yet) that Northam could have ordered snow melt application to highways before the storm hit, but did not do it.
Damn You Global Warming
Transportation Secretary?
I think the current standard is the Feds say it is the states responsibility.
LOL!
We were with my son for Christmas and yes, it was an icy mess.
I don’t know but would guess that it’s not good news.
If cars are trapped on Interstate Highways, I would think that involves Interstate Commerce.
