I needed a quick break between knitted arm warmers, so I crocheted up a "Hexie" pot holder. It's a fairly quick crochet & the pattern is so easy once you get it down/understand it, that it's fairly "mindless". I really love the pattern ...texture is good & it's very attractive. It ruffles a bit - blocking would get rid of the ruffles.

Yardage - 85 yards with a 10 hook.

Used an "H" hook (pattern calls for an "I"). This was intended for a pot holder so I wanted an extra dense texture. The smaller hook knocked it down from an 11" diameter to 10 inches.

One thing I did to help me ... each "section" (there are 6) begins with two double crochets in the first stitch & ends with 2 double crochets in the last stitch. I put a stitch marker between the two sections so each was clearly marked and I could make sure to stay on track. After I crochet a dozen of these, I probably won't need stitch markers.

Finishing off - pattern calls for a single crochet in each stitch around. Hmmmm. In the "points", I used 3 sc between (not in) the ending/beginning double crochets. If you look at the top of the 'points', you can see a slight hole. I think 3 sc helps it lie flatter & I like the open look between the two dc clusters - sort of decorative.

The designer says you can use this for a pot holder (yes!), dishcloth (?) or washcloth (?). For my liking, it's a bit too thick for the latter two - if you can find a cotton DK, sport weight, 3-light yarn, I think that would work better than regular cotton (4-medium) for cloth purposes. Also, a larger hook (like the pattern's "I" hook) would loosen up the stitches and make it less 'stiff'.
