Why do South Dakotans split their vote? They consistently vote for the Republican presidential candidate every time, but they also routinely elect Democrats for their senators.

If I had to make a WAG - I'd say it has something to do with the large Indian (feather) population.

“...except Republican policy ideas, which most people despise.”

Limited government, freedom, family, keeping what you earn, defence of innocent life. Tell me “normal” person, which of those do you despise?

South Dakota went 62% for Trump last round.

If they elect a Democrat senator (which would be the same as voting for Biden, given the split in the senate) it would be evidence of widespread voter fraud.

I did the South Dakota analysis of Obama 2008 by county and Biden 2020 by county.

Of the 65 South Dakota counties, only 4 counties turned out more for Joek than for Bammy [Custer/103%, Lincoln/139%, Minnehaha/102% and Pennington/116%].

Three others turned out 90% of Bammy's 2008 record totals [Hughes/97%, Lawrence/92% and Oglala Lakota/95%].

The rest of the counties ranged from mid-40s to high 80s of the Obama 2008 turnout.

I'm thinking South Dakota has swung permanently.

South Dakota 2020 US Senate

              Mike Rounds Dan Ahlers
Party Republican Democrat
Popular vote	276,232 143,987
Percentage 66% 34%

South Dakota 2020 US House at-large seat

    incumbent Dusty Johnson Randy Luallin
              Republican Libertarian
                321,984 75,748
          	  81% 19%

Democrat Party primary 2020

No candidate was able to gather enough signatures to qualify for the Democratic primary. According to state party chairman Randy Seiler, Democratic canvassing efforts were hampered by the coronavirus outbreak.

Candidates

Failed to qualify
Whitney Raver, small business owner
Brian Wirth, financial crime specialist

Withdrawn

Ellee Spawn, resource coordinator

Well, I have suspected that Chief Sitting Bull is still on the voter rolls in that state.

thanks for the info

we are hopeful for SDak!
thankyou and happy new year

(PS: it will still depend on whether the DNC puts out the $$ and troops to steal the election, something they’ve obviously gotten very skilled at... and SDak could be an easy.. or at least inexpensive pushover for them to steal given its small population...)

South Dakota splits their votes because they don’t let a good republican win the primary. I think this is the year to elect and promote real republicans. We need people who are both serious and conservative. We do not need a half and half RINO we do not need a guy who talks conservative but governs for his own popularity or shills for some business. Beware the guy that the media likes. He will never be the best one.

You folks are missing something. Stephenie Hersth Sandlin and her pretty pace was able to get past 2-3 ugly GOP males. They’ve elected rats before. Noem took her out because we were smart enough to play the pretty face game too. Ok so the author doesn’t know much. He’s on to something here.

I think the dangers of voting democrat have become very obvious this year. You have a chance at voting a real republican into the senate. We should do that.

You poor guy. Those are not Republican policy ideas. Here's what your party is really all about:

The GOP believes in and will fight for:

1) Open borders
2) A global open market in labor
3) Offshoring productive industries
4) Financialization of the economy
5)) Severing the medium of exchange function of money from the store of value function.
6) Usury as the main engine of consumption.
7) Denying the people their natural, healthy love of their nation
8) Overseas wars on behalf of alien peoples without recompense for our sacrifice.
9) Forced "diversity" with its attendent decline in standards and inevitably accompanying violence.

The GOP has plenty of principles, convictions, and values. YOU must decide if they are yours, or not.

This is about the dumbest take in history. It’s also why we lose.

Majority control means everything. Without majority control, the things you want to get to the floor never get there.

217 rock solid 100% conservative members of the House can’t get a singe bill to the floor without control of the calendar and committees.

The same for the Senate.

This “MUH CANDIDDATE AIN’T PURE” garbage is one reason that we lose so badly. The left will take a Manchin and Sinema if it means that they control the floor. Our side will toss out a person who votes with us 95% of the time, because they throw a tantrum over the 5%.

You are missing the point.

I never said that majority control isn’t important. Of course it is. But it shouldn’t be a goal unto itself - or we will focus on the wrong things.

When we focus on whether or not a candidate is making the right promises, and then keeping them - believe me, we will win huge majorities - because honest representation is what the people want - MAGA a winning strategy.

I’m all for winning - I’m just saying there is a right way and a wrong way to win majorities.

When we focus only on body counts - on how many candidates call themselves “Republicans” to get elected - sure, we occasionally get slight RINO majorities, but they do us little good.

When we focus on honesty and adherence to the Constitution - R majorities will be even bigger - and they will be MAGA majorities.

I want Republicans to win a huge majority and run every committee with an iron fist.

But - I want that super majority to be the result of a grassroots MAGA tsunami, NOT because GOP “leadership” made a bunch of political calculations, such as:

“Well, Mitt Romney will stab MAGA in the back every time, but he has better name recognition than the MAGA challenger - we will have a better chance of keeping control over our $$ committees, and that’s what is important.”

We just had an election stolen in broad daylight, and a lot of so-called Republican Governors and Senators (and even a VP) just stood there and let it happen. We have to do something about this RINO situation - if they are RINOs, the control is just an illusion.

I want control - I just want it to be real.
