For more than a week, Republicans from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Washington, D.C., have been shaken by the talk that Sen. John Thune might not seek reelection in 2022. The exit of three-termer Thune, No. 2 in the Senate Republican hierarchy behind Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, would make the odds better-than-even on Democrats winning his Senate seat.

Appears they like split tickets. This is the state of McGovern after all.
Great! š Thatās all we need...digging the hole a little deeper into the abyss of no return....America is truly screwed! Our only salvation for our country is IF God intervenes in all this mess. Prayer and on our knees is what God is seeking after.
“South Dakota went 62% for Trump last round.
If they elect a Democrat senator (which would be the same as voting for Biden, given the split in the senate) it would be evidence of widespread voter fraud.”
Agree, this isn’t 2018, when half the country is ready to take Trump’s head off because of his (fake) collusion with Russia.
Republicans have ZERO to worry about in any state that is marginally Red or better, providing they don’t allow the Democrat fraud machine to take over.
Other than that, someone is playing us at Newsmax, not sure why though.

How would we ever tell the difference!!
They want us to keep re-electing Assistant Democrats.
It would appear so. Must be an effect of those harsh winters up there.
I suggest this is clickbait from Newsmax.
In South Dakota the State Senate is comprised of 32 somewhat squishy GOP and 3 rabid Democrats.
Thus, I do not see a Democrat replacing Thune should he decide not to run.
That being said squishy Thune does act like a Democrat far too often.
These are not ordinary times
Why is there so little thought of Noem for senator. Has she gotten too squishy lately. What’s her timetable ?....or any vows to remain as Gov ?
She seems like the obvious choice, certainly more conservative than Thune, imho.
South Dakota would probably elect anything with an R next to it in 2022.
“They want us to keep re-electing Assistant Democrats.”
Of course, but this is a PERFECT opportunity to get someone good elected - open Primary, Red State.
Maybe he can run and win, and then retire. Governor appoints.
Why would South Dakotans vote for a Democrat?
We have to stop obsessing over āmajority controlā of the Senate and House. Such control is merely an illusion if half the Republicans are RINOs.
That mentality - that anyone with an R will help us achieve a majority - is what gets us RINOs - we are literally voting for anyone who calls himself a Republican.
Our focus should be on 1) choosing representatives who promise to uphold the Constitution and 2) strictly holding them accountable to that promise.
If we focus on that, we will have true control, regardless of party affiliation.
Having said that, I do believe the Republican Party is worth saving. I think an honest politician like Ronald Reagan, Rand Paul, MTG or Donald Trump is about a thousand times more likely to run as a Republican.
The Democrat Party is a cesspool of corruption. Voting for a Democrat is like accepting a ride with someone you already know is a serial killer. But voting for someone just because he calls himself a Republican nearly as stupid - itās like accepting a ride from someone who has a ānot a serial killerā sign on their car.
We just need to remember we arenāt voting for representatives because they call themselves āRepublicansā - we are voting for them because so far, they havenāt betrayed us.
Well, if the good people of South Dakota want more of Biden and all that means, then I guess they will get it. I should say, if they are utterly stupid enough.
When I was stationed In So Dak back in the 70s, I never met anyone that admitted voting for George McGovern, yet he kept getting re-elected. Either vote fraud has been endemic for a long time, or they are closet libs.
John Thune did his service. Let him retire and become a lobbyist. Should be able to find a Josh Hawley somewhere in South Dakota.
The author, John Gizzi, hasn't been right since 1989, and just because he's from newsmax {which is way over rated} his opinion doesn't carry any greater weight than Dickey {lick a ho-toe} Morris.
He makes a claim, and when he is wrong {most times} he just forgets it.
