Flip phones are your friends. I kept my kids off of everything humanly possible (even going to the point of snipping out WIFI antennas in their computers), and their phones were flip phones until they were 18. Did they get on anyway - of course, but it was limited as it had to be through their friends.

And no, it didn’t damage them (I know, hard to believe).
