Why are some people compelled to cheat at games?

[...]

Why were they cheating? In her book, Consalvo describes an idea called "gaming capital". Being good at a game brings a social cachet that elevates you within the community. Good players want to maintain their statuses and be sought out as experts.

"There's this knowledge that you get from deep play of a particular game… and that's something that you can share with other folks," says Consalvo. "The idea is that you have a kind of cultural capital."

But to maintain this status, sometimes players might need to cheat. Curiously, it might be the case that better players feel the need to cheat more than players who are worse than them. The fear of losing something appears to be a greater motivator to cheat than the lure of a gain.

Because how others perceive them is more important to them than how they perceive themselves.

I cheat at games to make extra money.

On an unrelated note, we should get a FR poker game started every Friday.

The only game I cheat at is UNO.. it’s more fun to cheat at that game than to play it... especially if everyone else is cheating

For the same reason that Hillary said she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, and that she landed at the airport in Bosnia in the middle of gunfire. For the same reason that Connecticut Senator Blumenthal lied by saying he was deployed in Viet Nam. For the same reason that Joe Biden tells ludicrous lies about himself and his accomplishments or what he's endured in life (details available upon request). For the same reason that Brian Williams lied to embellish his escapades as a ‘journalist’.

It's called narcissism, and it's the results of a whole generation of people being told by their mothers/parents that they were ‘special’, inferring that they were/are above everyone else in the world. Every single disaster of a ‘leader’, including Mao, Stalin, Marx, Hitler, Mussolini, Xi, Castro, etc. has been motivated by delusional narcissism.

My work colleague and I in the '80s found a way to cheat the bulletin board game "Murder Mansion." We made a map of all the rooms and worked as a team. Soon we racked up a few thousand kills apiece, the others had somewhere between 10-15.

After we got there we deleted our profiles to return the game to normal.

They are leftists?

That’s the only reason I can think of.

It’s much more fun to play by the rules and win legitimately.

Hillary cheated at cattle futures because that laundered a $100,000.00 bribe ($250,000.00 in today’s dollars).

Back in the 1980s, the game Trivial Pursuit was a popular game. I went ahead and read all the questions and answers on my own time and people thought I was a genius, until they got a little suspicious. I mean, what normal person would know that the first puck used in ice hockey was made of cow manure?

The internet sort of ruined trivia games

Yes, but above ALL, Hillary and her fellow travelers are motivated by ego and their self perception as 'greater than'. This motivates them more than ANYTHING else - including any amount of money. Money, to them, is a means to an ends, and that ends is 'glory'. Nothing less. Trust me on this.

They’re the same folks who move on to attempting to STEAL countries.
Link is to an excellent piece by MOLLIE HEMINGWAY.
PLEASE take the time to read it, as it’s almost a blow-by-blow account of HOW Suckerberg, et al violated every standard of decent behavior to STEAL AMERICA from the rest of us and if it fails to BOIL YOUR BLOOD, see if you can fog a mirror.

Why are some people compelled to cheat at games?

Even though lying is sometimes involved in cheating (usually after one gets caught cheating to cover it up), they are different things and people do them for different reasons.

People cheat because they are convinced that they need or deserve to win whatever it is they're cheating to get. Their motives might be financial, professional, or political or just their ego, but whatever the motive, in their mind, this justifies cheating: the end justifies the means.

The perfect example on large scale of this is the Democrats in the 2020 (and many other) elections. In their minds Trump and the Republicans are so evil and Democrat policies are so righteous that they actually are morally justified to engage in cheating.
