I like many things about the hispanic culture. I have several such neighbors right now. However, it is often the truth that
A. The majority of them like their music quite loud, at least for a few ‘favorite’ songs.
B. Something surprising: Many hispanic families do not show the same ‘reverence for the night’ that most black and white families do. What do I mean?
I mean instead of becoming quieter when outside at night, some can have the exact same volume at 2AM that they would have at 2PM in the afternoon. I hear it in their children too, and the children are usually not shushed.
I have learned to deal with it, for the most part. The night noise usually doesn’t last that long.
This Lady should not have invited herself inside, but I’m just guessing, she had already tried knocking on the front door, but her knocks were drowned out by the lively music.
Instead of uniting in booting the ‘bothersome lady’ out of their presence, the family should have simply turned the music down. That’s all she wanted.
We had the same situation with former Hispanic neighbors. They would blast loud music near midnight 100 feet from our bedroom window. We would simply text and politely ask them to turn it down, and they usually did.
My experience is similar. Setting off fireworks on Christmas Eve makes no sense to me, either.
As long as they weren’t playing that Mariah Carey song, it’s all good.
