In 2020, the video-sharing platform was ranked No. 7 while Google came in at No. 1. This year, TikTok came in first, followed by Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Apple, in that order. Cloudflare's 2020 and 2021 rankings don't offer a perfect comparison; Cloudflare Radar, which compiles this information, only launched in September of 2020, so last year's rankings accounted for just a few months.
Regardless, Google is well aware of TikTok's dominance. The site has been looking to become increasingly focused on video and audio as the internet moves away from content people can read and toward content people can see or hear. Platforms like TikTok, Instagram and podcasts have largely led that shift.
TikTok's popularity also shows just how much people trust it. Google has long been a go-to for fact-checking information, but people may be increasingly willing to take people's word on TikTok without conducting any outside verification. The platform has added some measures to stop the spread of potentially misleading content, like adding banners on unverified TikToks and fact-checking content that users flag.

TikTok is stupid. And stupid people use it to do stupid things.
God was in a playful mood when He created those critters!
And then there are the "wall of text" replies as if paragraphs were a novel thing, and they look like some of my replies here when I neglect to preview and find that there must have been a bit of html in my reply!
I never used that, and hardly ever use social media, but I did remember that My Space was once the rage ("the most visited social networking site in the world, even surpassing Google in June of 2006") and wondered what happened to it. It seems that, as with other venues, the owners became greedy and mistreated users:
News Corp purchased MySpace..After the over half billion dollar purchase, MySpace’s new owners decided to focus on monetizing the service immediately. Under the guidance of a media empire that had little-to-no Internet company knowledge, MySpace began to flood their users with ads while doing very little to improve the user experience....it’s no longer called MySpace—it’s now Myspace.. Down to about 200 employees, Myspace announced in November of 2013 that it would lay off 5% of its workforce.
It gets worse,
During beta testing for the new Myspace, a parallel sign-in option was provided to users so that they could click ‘classic MySpace’ if they so desired. That option is now gone. It was taken down without notice or warning and existing users nearly rioted about their deleted blog entries. Myspace claims to have not deleted the actual content but rather just cut off access to it. Users were not amused.
