Nobody buys Tesla, so the same nobodies will buy Lucid. Maybe?

Northern California gasoline prices are down a little.

Yesterday, I filled up my wife’s ancient Lexus with gas at $4.65/gallon versus $5 something a few weeks ago.

From https://www.chattanoogan.com/2021/11/28/439121/Roy-Exum-Nope-No-EV-For-Me.aspx (more info at the link)

If you want to inflict maximum damage on the environment, you support EVs, wind turbines and solar panels – all with their associated batteries. They don’t even come close in being as environmentally clean as coal, natural gas, and nuclear power. Likewise, their (EVs, WTs, and Solar) cost is going to be exorbitant. WTs and Solar reliability is poor.

Electric vehicles are taxpayer subsidized for the purchase of each hybrid or fully electric vehicle with a discount of about $7,000. Then, the government does not collect road-use taxes. Further, the new infrastructure bill provides several billion dollars of taxpayer funds to build charging stations. Do we really want our Government in the “electric filling-station” business?

If money wasn't an object, and either car was readily available at a moment's notice,

If money was no object, I'd buy a Lambo.

I’ve much enjoyed owning Tesla stock, but not a Tesla.

I think any interest I had in owning an electric car dwindled when the illegitimate Biden regime completely squandered our energy independence, reversed Trump’s industrial deregulation agenda, and totally screwed our manufacturing base.

Last year, I was thinking energy costs were going to keep decreasing - and Trump’s deregulation, border security and trade sanity regarding China were on the verge of ushering in a techno revolution.

Now it seems like things are going to really suck for a while - I don’t think we can count on better, cheaper batteries yet, nor do I see cheap and readily available charging stations on the horizon.

Gas is getting expensive too - but why change horses in midstream?

Fantastic.

It’s a 1992 Buick LeSabre. With a battery!

Lucid Air Electric Sedan:

MSRP: $77,400 - $169,000

Nah, I think I’ll buy a house instead.

Who wants to take out a mortgage on a car?

EVs need to be pioneered to iron out problems, including cost.

Otherwise, prospective Lucid Air purchasers probably should ask how much it costs to replace battery.

Tesla Owner Blows Up Car After Discovering Cost To Fix Battery (12.21.21; $22,500)

Also, ask if battery holds charge in freezing weather. Based on long ago threads, owners may have to choose between heating car on side of road versus dead battery.

Also, based on friend with firsthand experience, ask cost of replacing tires. You may be in for a surprise.

Also, way back I found a reference that charging EV is comparable to powering a 1400 watt electric heater because of battery internal resistance. But that was then.

Corrections, insights welcome.

Adricle,Advice, stated a Vella destroyed his tesla because he found out it was gonna cost him over 20,000 (in whatever denomination he used) to fix the batteries

If this is true, it’s gonna cost nearly the price of a small car just to fix battery issues if something goes wrong?

From what I hear talking to knowledgeable engineer types - the software and ease of use provided by the Elon Musk companies is so much better than the competition, that the choice is easy.
Wait and see. But I don’t think Battery Electric is viable beyond another 10 years. The resources are just not affordable or available to supplant internal combustion powered vehicles.
So what is Musk’s long-term plan? ...... have to wait and see.

Competition is a great thing, let’s see how this car does.

EV Stats:

Less than 1% of vehicles on USA roads are EVs.

42% of all EVs in America are registered in California.

6% of vehicles in California are EVs.

The percentage of households with ALL EV vehicles is unknown, probably because it is too small a number to bother about.

80% of EV owners replace their EVs with another EV, 20% go back to gas. Similar numbers for hybrids.

Note that Tesla is something like 28th on Consumer Report’s list of 29 cars rated for reliability. Whoever first offers an electric with strong quality and reliability (as opposed to range, speed and cool factor) will clean up.

“If money wasn’t an object”

It is.

Tesla has practically stopped making high end cars because demand for lower price models is so high.

That’s a sharp looking car, but no way would I pay that much money for it.

One of my cars is an EV. Ford Mach E. All wheel drive, cost about 60 grand, excellent commuter car. Don’t buy it if you’re driving more than 100 miles per day every day (standard battery). Yeah, the range is double that but for daily battery maintenance I only charge it to 85 or 90% and don’t let it go below 20%.

Unlike Tesla, mine had the full tax credit.

I charge at home unless I happen to be eating lunch near a free charging station, of which there are some around me. Yeah, I’ll take advantage of the free juice.

I have not noticed a change in battery efficiency with weather near freezing over the last few weeks. And I plan on rotating my tires every 5000 miles.
