We just bought a 1005 Ford Focus this past Spring for $3000 and that's the most we've ever paid for a car. There won't be any such thing as a cheap used electric car.
You bought the Leif Erickson model.
a 1005 Ford Focus for $3K? That’s a bargain for a serious antique!
The 1005 model? I’m afraid to ask how miles 🙂
Exactly correct. Automakers and Government are in a fascist style cooperation on this. Government ideology forces political mandates to switch to electric, automakers sign-up as part of the government-protected oligopoly.
Get a car fax report. You might find out William the Conqueror was a prior owner on that 1005 and it will be worth more.
“We just bought a 1005 Ford Focus this past Spring”
I had no idea Ford was around back then. :)
Our approach is a bit different. We get a great deal on a new vehicle, then baby it for 150,000 to 250,000 miles. (Mrs. Chandler has great intuition about when it’s time to trade it in.) No high repair bills, no inheriting other people’s problems.
Those were great cars!
And what to do with all the stuff that can’t be recycled, as these things are starting to hit the benchmarks regarding battery replacement?
Do the batteries go to the new EVs or to the older ones needing maintenance and battery replacement?
Decisions, decisions.
Thankfully, Georgia finally got rid of the tax breaks they were giving rich guys, so they could buy their Sunday driver, Tesla’s...for now. Never could understand why a guy that was able to afford a $100k EV, should have received a penny in tax breaks. But hey, that’s just me.
Nissan Leaf used price was $6000 not long ago. Doubled of late, given high demand.
