Sheriff Craig Rowland, right, at a ceremony in 2020.
"The youth group leader, who grew up in the house next to Rowland and considered him a family friend, said she told Rowland her name and that she was his neighbor, but added that the words did not seem to register."
Drunk? Medicine? An raging idiot?
I’m going with C.
L
“I live just off the reservation, we have a lot of reservation people around us who are not good people.”
reservation people?...SMH
As I understand it many Native Americans have an issue with alcohol and alcoholism but dadgum dude your the sheriff...really?
Probably just for medicinal purposes.
Not smart by the youth group leader. People are on edge by recent events and the rise in crime. Invading the sanctity of someone’s private property in the dark to pull a prank like this no matter how pure the motives is fraught with unintended consequences. The sheriff’s over reaction to me sounds like he possibly had more than 1 drink.
Now I don’t feel totally quite as bad about some of the stupid hsit that I’ve done and said in my time.
“Rowland said he had had one alcoholic drink earlier in the night”
Yeah but he made it in a coffee pot
The sheriff admitted to investigators that he had pulled the woman out of her car by the hair and pointed a gun at her, demonstrating aiming it at her head or neck, according to the affidavit.
Rowland said he had had one alcoholic drink earlier in the night, but was not drunk or impaired.

Rowland should do some serious jail time.
A prank?
“According to a probable cause affidavit, the seven girls, ages 12 to 16, were delivering paper “thankful turkeys” to people around the neighborhood as part of a youth group activity”
Doesn’t sound like a prank to me...sounds like they were trying to to something nice....maybe a little ill-advised but still.
He had no excuse, but having lived next to a reservation for years, I can understand better how this could happen. There are a lot of things in play including corrupt tribal police, missing persons, especially tribal ladies, rampant drug cartels, unsolved murders, FBI, etc. probably a model for what our society looks like in 10 years.
I’m going with “d”:
Power hungry, middle-aged coward with a badge and a gun, and terrified of the dark and his own shadow.
One could maybe understand if this happened in some crime ridden ‘hood, but Blackfoot, Idaho? It is a quiet little town mostly populated by Mormonites.
I'd pull his badge in a second.
Many years ago, a full blooded Seneca woman out of Buffalo NY said...”The parents don’t discipline their kids and most are all or doing drugs. The good ones go to Canada”.
Liar.
Bullying a group of girls and a woman.
Must be real proud of himself.
8 p.m. is kind of late for pranks. Dark outside? Nonetheless, a non law enforcement person wouldn’t behave like he did. How much more would the public expect a sheriff to have far better judgment and self control, not to mention better gun etiquette. What if that gun had gone off and killed the poor girl?
He is done.
I’m with you!
And how many officers have been been shot.....and killed!
I stand with this sheriff!
One drink - it was one bottle of Jack!
Was his “one drink” in a 32oz Big Gulp cup?
