Something doesn’t sound right. California/10th isn’t exactly in the woods which means the coyotes would have been roaming through city streets. Hmmm
They are getting very bold, they no longer fear people and now roam in cities a lot.
Coyotes have been roaming in urban areas of San Francisco more than ten years now.
I don’t know San Francisco but a quick check of the map shows that’s about a block away from “Mountain Lake State Park”, so I’d guess that’s where the coyotes slouched in from.
They live in NYC too. #coyotes
Coyotes have become the most urban of animals. As long as there is plenty of woodland somewhere in the city, there are probably coyotes.
FWIW there have been coyotes seen here in Montgomery County (Maryland). We are in the suburbs not that far from D.C.

It’s 2 blocks from the Presidio. You know the National park. The Presidio includes the GG Bridge with connects to Marin County. They cross the bridge at night looking for easy food in SF.
Plenty of years ago...like 25 yrs... I drove down a street one morning..in Riverside, CA...in an area with many homes..and a Yote was running in the street.
I lived in SF decades ago. Coyotes were there in the city and liked to go into stores to sleep at night because they were cold. You never know where a coyote will turn up Keep pets inside and on leashes outside.
I’ve seen one standing on the corner of Market and Fremont. It took off down Front street when I yelled at it. Roughly midnight, fall 1999. A few years later I realized the dogs I would see late at night near the CalTrain station were just not dogs, heheh...
It’s right—there are coyotes all over the place.
