Journalism Foundation Urges Ditching Objectivity in Favor of 'Social Justice'

"How many fingers, Winston?" ---O'Brien in 1984

Media figures often love to profess their "objectivity." However, as with Chuck Todd who once proclaimed he was a mere "referee," few believe that laughable claim. In fact, a major journalism foundation, the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University via its NeimanLab published a plea for ditching objectivity in favor of "solidarity for social justice." The author is Dr. Anita Varma, assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Media at the University of Texas at Austin.

Here is Varma's disdain for objectivity in favor of the social justice greater good which sounds as if it is straight out of Orwell.

Note to Texas Freepers. The clown who wrote this piece is an assistant professor at UT Austin School of Journalism and Media. I just wonder how many at that school are on the side of objectivity or have they all been purged?

And they wonder why news viewership and newspaper readership are plummeting.
Contrary to Mr. Twain’s observation, your are better informed if you don’t watch the news or read the paper.

I applaud the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University for going even further Left. The further Left they go, the better I feel.

Why?

For one reason, it is to let them show themselves to be who they really are. Let the concealed be revealed.

It’s, also, because it’ll motivate more people to continue to walk away from collectivism. Eventually you’ll have enough people in that mix to stop supporting Harvard. When Leftist Harvard collapses so will foundation. They will have no one to blame except themselves for that.

“Journalism Foundation Urges Ditching Objectivity in Favor of ‘Social Justice’”

Didn’t that ship already sail, a few decades ago? Maybe they want to formalize the arrangement.

I remember Chris Matthews saying after 0bama was elected that it’s “my job to make sure that he’s successful”. He didn’t say that it was his job to “report on him fairly”. And look at the way that the media has handled the riots, the smash, and grabs, the surging murder rate, they have been putting “social justice” ahead of all else for a long time already.

To be frank, exactly what ‘objectivity’?
Journalism lost all sense of ‘objectivity’ nearly a decade or so ago......

Because they are getting desperate due to so many walking away from them. The crazier they get the more they walk away.

It kinda reminds me of the Jews and Pharoah. The more Jews walked away from Egyptian culture, the more Pharoah’s heart was hardened. The more his heart was hardened, the more Jews kept walking away. Even when they literally walked away from Egypt and into the desert, the Pharoah lost his marbles completely and tried to destroy every Jew.

But that’s where it’s going. The Left will get violent at some point in the near future which will result in another civil war. Considering that the crazy Left is composed of about 25 percent of the population, I would say the odds of them losing is pretty decent.

The more sane people are moving to red states and the less sane, to blue states. At some point they’ll get medieval on each other’s buttocks.

“inform the public of issues that matter, hold institutional power accountable, and challenge society to be better by urging us to care about more than ourselves”. Who defines “better”?

— “Journalism lost all sense of ‘objectivity’ nearly a decade or so ago......”

Indeed. This latest crop of intellects was nurtured by a former crop of intellects. One sees the antecedents to explain those who follow like sheep. Looking back one reviews the following:

“Why should we cherish ‘objectivity’, as if ideas were innocent, as if they don't serve one interest or another? Surely, we want to be objective if that means telling the truth as we see it, not concealing information that may be embarrassing to our point of view. But we don't want to be objective if it means pretending that ideas don't play a part in the social struggles of our time, that we don't take sides in those struggles. Indeed, it is impossible to be neutral. In a world already moving in certain directions, where wealth and power are already distributed in certain ways, neutrality means accepting the way things are now. It is a world of clashing interests – war against peace, nationalism against internationalism, equality against greed, and democracy against elitism – and it seems to me both impossible and undesirable to be neutral in those conflicts.”

One quick source of the quote: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/268275-why-should-we-cherish-objectivity-as-if-ideas-were-innocent

This is the dogma taught in schools and universities. It explains in part the word games of the globalists today.

Its antecedent goes back to the notion of “repressive tolerance” and Herbert Marcuse. Reading to the end, “repression” is justified, so it comes back to the age-old game of power.

https://www.marcuse.org/herbert/publications/1960s/1965-repressive-tolerance-fulltext.html

Its final sentence contains the marching orders.

“The tolerance which is the life element, the token of a free society, will never be the gift of the powers that be; it can, under the prevailing conditions of tyranny by the majority, only be won in the sustained effort of radical minorities, willing to break this tyranny and to work for the emergence of a free and sovereign majority - minorities intolerant, militantly intolerant and disobedient to the rules of behavior which tolerate destruction and suppression.”

“We” break one tyranny and replace it with a new one. The activist journalist marches on. Zinn’s “truth as we see it” becomes mere contention for who shall rule, and Marcuse’s “militant intolerance” fuels a side in the conflict. The old class conflict.

A very likely scenario. Inflation steals from the lower and middle classes as radical militant violence attacks. Sooner or later those who have not pushed back will push back, as we are doing.

Lol. Journalists ditched objectivity ages ago. They just want to make it official now.
