I never purchase Kraft. The generic or store brand is just fine, and a lot cheaper.
Agreed.
Not true. I tried to make a cheesecake with Aldi store brand. It never softened. Even after some microwaving it still had the texture of a rubber eraser. Tasted OK, but no go for mixing
Kraft Philadelphia 8 oz block = $1.98
Walmart Great Value 8 oz block = 84 cents
Savings for the Great Value brand at 4 blocks per recipe = $4.56
Save even more making your own yogurt. Drain it and you’ve got Greek yogurt which can be substituted for the cream cheese.
Carrying on the savings by making your own yogurt to sub for cream cheese decreases the cost by another dollar:
Great Value 32 oz. plain yogurt = $1.87
Homemade using Great Value milk or Great Value powdered milk = 82 cents for 32 oz.
Add in a penny for the starter which was chained from 4 previous batches of homemade yogurt or the dregs from the previous jar (or a heaping spoon of store bought yogurt with live cultures).
Total savings by not using Kraft is about $5.60. Why put that in their pocket?
Cheaper, yes, but most off brands have a chalky feel to them. Best to stick with the gold standard which is Philly. It’s even popular in Italy and those peeps know a thing or two about cheese
