Kroger, the nation's largest traditional grocery chain, announced significant policy changes this week aimed at compelling employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
What are the details? Starting next year, the Cincinnati-based company will no longer provide two weeks of paid emergency leave to unvaccinated employees who become infected with COVID-19, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday after viewing a company memo.
The paper noted that Kroger also plans to add a $50 monthly surcharge to company health plans for salaried nonunion employees who are unvaccinated. Both policies are set to take effect on Jan. 1, the Journal said.
According to the Associated Press, in an email to employees, Kroger leadership said the company would still offer "various leave options for employees who contract the virus, including earned paid time off and the ability to apply for unpaid leave," but that paid "special" leave would now only be available to fully vaccinated employees.
What else? Kroger, which employs nearly 500,000 people who interact with up to 9 million customers every day, will reportedly continue offering a $100 reward to employees who get the shot.
The company's policy changes fall short of a vaccine mandate. Rather, they aim to pressure employees to get vaccinated by making life more difficult for those who choose not to do so. Or in this case — more expensive.

>>Why? They’re a private company. You and I may disagree with it, but they can.
Thank you for reminding people of that. People on FR are usually fine with ANYTHING a private company does in the pursuit of their profits - that is until that private company does something they don’t like - then they are behaving like Nazi’s.
I am not in favor of the mandates, but its not really a mandate if you have the choice to leave - and in this market, *everyone* has the option of leaving and probably will get a big raise if they do.
Nobody at Kroger is forced to get a vaccine; private company, their rules - quit if you don’t like it (and especially don’t shop there if it bothers you).

All those Kroger “family” stores....
Saw some on those semi permanent plastic shopping bags. Too many under one company if we ever need to boycott. Like Kraft and others with hundreds of items to boycott.
Ralph’s was where the Dude of the Big Lebowski shopped in his bathrobe.
Digital enhancement will now show all wearing masks in the movie.
I do remember TJ lines and masks now that you mention it. Been a long time since they’ve done that. My daughter came down from N. ID to take me out for a birthday lunch, stopped at Trader first, couldn’t believe people distancing and wearing masks. Never needed to in the free state of Idaho.
BTW, Trader has the best boxed dog bones ever. Some kind of banana flavored thing. I never go up to ID without bringing 4 boxes, one for each dog. Doggie bedlam ensues :}
And here I was wishing there was a Kroger near me...
Masks are back at TJ’s in CA (and everywhere else business-wise/indoors) courtesy of Grusome Newsom.
Smokers took an action that harm their health. Getting the Jim Jones Jab will NOT prevent the recipient from getting or spreading COVID. The charge is fraudulent.
Except it's illegal and completely fraudulent. The Jim Jones Jab does NOT prevent the recipient from getting nor spreading COVID. At the same time, with thousands of customers coming through the store, the owners CANNOT claim any of their staff are protected unless they were wearing a full bio-suit.
It's a fraudulent charge. Period.
Some companies have tossed healthy, not-vexxed employees AND some with antibodies into the “NON-WELLNESS” rate pool. At some places, that adds $400 to $800 PER MONTH to one’s premiums. Lawsuits will be coming and they should include the company and directly the individuals at said company(or companies) calling the shots on this move.
BTW: there is a reason productivity is falling. This “get vexxed or pay more” is part of it. Those who do not flee from such an employer will learn or figure out legal ways to recover such theft from one’s paycheck.
>>Except it’s illegal and completely fraudulent.
Just because you call it illegal, doesn’t make it illegal.
It’s not illegal until some judge rules that it’s illegal and someone is held accountable - will be interesting to see, but don’t hold your breath.
Bottomline though, if you don’t like it don’t work there and don’t shop there.
Wait until they discover that it is the Vaxxed employees who end up driving healthcare costs higher.
Kroger’s in East Tennessee is ‘rounding up’ your bill to the nearest dollar because they claim that Brink’s can’t or won’t provide them with enough coin to make exact change. For example; if your bill comes to $177.12, they ROUND UP (NOT round down) your bill to $178, make change for the cash and apply an 88 cent credit to your Kroger’s PLUS Shopper’s card. WTF??? Of course, there is NO MENTION of this policy on their flier or in their in-store signage.
Kroger here in MI said a few months ago The Federal Treasury is low on coins and we cannot give change. We will issue a Kroger gift card for uneven amounts and we can no longer give change for currency.

It's a fraudulent charge against employees who are NOT at greater risk of health costs to the employer.
IF I happen to go into a Kroger in the future;, my wife will be giving them EXACT change for coin...in pennies.
Do AIDS next.
Maybeeee...Kroger is very pro-sodomite. Big time.
That’s racist!
Glad I don’t have a Kroger store near me.
Boycott Kroger
