In July of last year, the Shelby GT350 “Ken Miles R-Model” Mustang Prototype sold for a hammer price of $3.5 million ($3.85 million with fees) at auction in Indianapolis, making it the most expensive Ford Mustang ever sold. For reasons unknown, the buyer has decided to flip it, and the iconic Mustang will be up for sale once again, this time at Mecum’s Kissimmee, Florida auction in January.
This GT350R broke the record for world’s priciest Mustang that had been set by the 1968 Ford Mustang GT driven by Steve McQueen in the film Bullitt. It has an incredible pedigree; a resume only topped by Carroll Shelby himself. And that history will undoubtedly result in the auction house raking in big bucks all over again. The only question is whether it will beat its own record this time.

I hate the “buyers premium”. What a scam.
That could very well be exactly what they did. It was a prototype after all and it was built for the track.
Probably had cooling issues so they just took a jig saw to it and created more surface area for the radiator. That’s how those guys rolled. And you can’t argue with their record.
Hey do you know if it comes with a home charger? Asking for my friend Brandon

Several times over, the car was sold to racers who pushed this Shelby even harder, it ended up in the hands of one Luis Blanq-Cacaux of Monterrey, Mexico in 1970. Blanq-Cacaux competed in 5R002 for two years at events like the Mexican Trans Am series and Mexico 1000. Then he slapped a coat of gray primer on it and left it to rot in a yard, where it sat until it was discovered in 1989.

I am sure its a nice car, but it will NEVER pass the Shelby on the auction block even with its engine off
To be 18 again have that car and cruising spring break with Laz!!!
There is a Bullitt Mustang in my neighborhood. And there’s a pretty good-sized antique and hot rod Club in the local area and whenever there’s a rally which is monthly during the Summers I’ll see that Mustang cruising around sometimes in the neighborhood sometimes out on the road, it’s a Beaut.
I needed a wing man back then. :)
Nice.
Id love to go a few laps around the track...or the Gandy bridge.

Many have track days where you can bring your street car or rent.
Looks like a good spot for a front license plate. ;>)
Just don’t open the trunk!
I used to smoke the small block Corvettes and Mustangs on Saturday nights heading east from the stop light at Derby Lane with my ‘66 Fairlane GTA after the drag races were over at Sunshine Speedway. Oh and the summer of ‘67, who knew what lay ahead?
