Well, maybe you had a more authentic mincemeat. The typical kind we buy now is not at all savory - it’s more like a plum pudding in taste, but lots more fruit.
I have no idea how authentic mine was, and I don’t remember the taste very well. I was also surprised at what the British call “pudding”, so I am probably the under-cultured one here. I am just somewhat offended at a pie with the word meat, but no actual meat. Sort of like the Ritz “Mock Apple Pie”.
