Many have heard of Handel's 'Messiah.' But do you know about Handel?

Arguably the most beautiful, majestice composition ever written.

That noted, it's important to bear in mind the following:
-- It's not "The Messiah"; it's "Messiah"
-- It's not "Home Depot"; it's "The Home Depot"
-- and, most importantly, it's not "Macallan" scotch; it's "The Macallan"

(I really need a vacation!)

I have no idea how authentic mine was, and I don’t remember the taste very well. I was also surprised at what the British call “pudding”, so I am probably the under-cultured one here. I am just somewhat offended at a pie with the word meat, but no actual meat. Sort of like the Ritz “Mock Apple Pie”.

RE: I often rock Handel’s Water Music on my stereo. Fantastic!!

Yes, that was Handel’s other wonderful masterpiece, a collection of orchestral movements, often published as three suites.

The Alla Hornpipe portion of this piece is played all over the world every time there are dancing fountains.

I'm not the biggest Handel fan, possibly because I over-listened as a youth, but any guy who is bad-ass enough to get into a nearly deadly sword fight with another composer (Mattheson) over some minor musical elements is invited to my table any day!

(I just won't talk about music.)

Yes, I also often listen to Water Music AND Fire Music. They are so energizing!

Your Freudian slip, not mine.

"No idea what a mince pie is"

Surely you jest... Growing up in New England during the 30s & 40s, mince pie was a hardcore tradition...

An old girlfriend made that one year with venison her father had shot. I have always liked the meatless version, but what she made was excellent.

You all might enjoy the British film “The Great Mr. Handel”
from 1942.

Handel was such a popular opera composer that he was allowed to pick his own leading ladies. However, this perk led to an almighty bust-up between sopranos Faustina Bordoni and Francesca Cuzzoni, two rival singers of the day, who ended up having a scrap on stage during a performance of Bononcini's Astianatte. They both had to be dragged off stage to stop them pulling bits off each other's costumes.

LOL!

Pudding is kind of a general word to the Brits that can apply to lots of things; sometimes just any dessert.

(but Plum - or Christmas - Pudding is really good - especially with a boozy hard sauce. You can buy plum puddings ready-made; but it’s been years since our local grocery has had them, and we get them online.)

A mince pie had meat, raisins and other dried fruits. Now, the meat is missing... I usually have a slice if offered...

I guess it’s an English thing.

I see it’s mincemeat, which isn’t what I thought mincemeat was.

"I see it’s mincemeat, which isn’t what I thought mincemeat was."

For me, "mincemeat" is what we did to the chicoms in 1951 & 1952...
