You opined: “Spielberg has been a disaster since he turned hard left.” I’m not disagreeing with you, but wonder when/which film you mark as the beginning of his left turn.
I’m asking because I’ve not seen many of his films since the last Indiana Jones film and “Saving Ryan’s Privates.” On the latter, the opening Omaha Beach portion I consider to be phenomenal. The re-editing of “E.T.” I consider a disaster.
Tony Kushner as Spielberg’s screenwriter is a factor. Kushner wrote “Munich” “Lincoln” and “West Side Story.”
What has Spielberg done since “Saving Private Ryan”?
I think sometime after that, the Hollywood parties and the Obama Administration got under his skin and he got “woke”, and is worse as time goes along. I can’t prove it at all, but look how bad his movies have been since “Saving Private Ryan”.
He has a few decent movies. Bridge of Spies is almost the exception. Ready Player One wasn’t terrible.
Since War of the Worlds and even before, most of his movies just haven’t been the same. “Hard Left” was putting it too harshly but you can see the wokiness working since around War of the Worlds. Maybe since AI.
