I think it’s a pretty fair bet that the democrats will be handed their a$$es in the 2022 elections. Given that happens, I think there may be an unusual opportunity to change the political dynamic in favor of conservatives. Why: in my time as a former dem, one thing that struck me about how the faction thinks is that they want to win. Ideology is not all that important, winning is. If the hard left tilt that they’re on isn’t working, I think there will be some receptiveness to different strategies. In that respect, populist conservatives running as dems in red states might be able to accomplish some things. Particularly against assistant dems who to date have been intractable.
Let me give an example. Let’s use Liz Cheney. I’m assuming that she will win another term in 2022. We’ve seen this movie before; conservatives will split the primary vote and she wins both the primary and then the general election against whatever leftist sacrificial lamb the dems run against her.
But let’s consider 2024. The same scenario of multiple primary candidates results in Liz winning the primary. But instead of a leftist dem, you run a conservative dem in the Zell Miller mold. The dem runs as a conservative against her. She might still win, but she definitely has to run for it.
Problems I see:
- there were precious few conservatives in the dem party when I was one, and they’re rarer than hens teeth now. Conservatives would have to be willing to re-establish a presence.
- Leftists would primary conservatives. Again, I believe the dems are more interested in winning. But let’s say they have a primary fight. Would it be all that tragic to have leftists and conservatives fighting it out in the primaries?
I am not so optimistic. I have not heard that the electronic web connected voting machines with their Democrat algorithms have been all sent to the dump and not replaced with any other electronic machines. And the Democrats still have another foolproof method that may not work in Florida and Texas but will most certainly work everywhere else and that is to proclaim a national lockdown and mail-in voting only. This time they will be aiming to fix the Congressional elections and probably down ticket races for whatever other offices are on the ballot.
I’d like to know how you can still call yourself a Democrat?
Conservative Democrat is a misnomer like military intelligence.
Some vanities are awesome and bring up a lot of good points for discussion. Those vanities are a real asset to Free Republic. Unfortunately this is not one of them.

Sounds like 2008 here in Idaho, when “conservative Democrat” Walt Minnick got elected to Congress. He served only one term.
I always ask, “if you’re a conservative, why are you a Democrat?”
Democrats and communists have been indistinguishable from each other for 50 years.
Interesting. Was the person he defeated an assistant democrat and if so, do you think it was worth dislodging him from office?
The incumbent was a conservative Christian, great guy. A lot of out-of-state money was thrown at this campaign (probably Soros and his ilk).
Yup. Conservatives were purged with the rise of the loons in the late 90s and early 2000s. A strategic error as those same types of folks are the assistant dems of the gop today.
liz cheney could win the primary, but right now, she’s down 18 points to the Trump-endorsed candidate.

There were. I was one. I don’t know if there are others left today. I expect that would have to be rebuilt.

You say “you WERE” that’s important and THAT’s what I meant by saying there are none, because those of us who saw the light and switched, well, in my case, would NEVER go back, expecially now.
It didn’t take long for people to figure him out.
Now we just need to get rid of the communist witch Mayor of Boise.
Oh I do see it. The question is whether or not it would be advantageous to have conservatives be there again.
As long as the RINOs mouth the pretty words in the red states, they will stay in power. They have to be caught in bed with a dead boy before they’re successfully primaried. This is another potential way, but maybe not a good way, to show them the door.
