Newly released monitoring data shows that San Francisco’s Millennium Tower tilted a quarter inch during the four days it took to install the first test pile to bedrock last month.
Veteran geotechnical engineer Bob Pyke said the sudden fluctuation is a telltale sign.
Other experts say the water pressure drop is evidence that the method designed to limit settlement may not be working as well as hoped.

It’s all about the money... I read the part about ‘friction’ bedding and I just laughed.....
Just waiting for someone to find the section of the Build Back Better legislation that has the US taxpayer covering all the costs of this “crisis”.
Sounds like a joke, but I don’t hear anyone laughing.
“They still use toilets in SF?”
No, the street.

Me too.
“The Democrats will blame it on capitalism, climate change, or systemic racism.”
You forgot Trump. And it will happen at a good movement of the tectonic plate in the area. They didn’t learn anything in 1906. They were liberal then also.

Gravity, thou art a heartless b*tch.
Renowned geotechnical engineer Frederick Nathaniel Hibbert had this to say:
I say, a pressure drop, oh pressure
Oh yeah, pressure drop, a drop on you
I say, a pressure drop, oh pressure
Oh yeah, pressure drop, a drop on you
I say, and when it drops, oh, you gonna feel it
Know what you were doing’s wrong
I say, when it drop, oh, you gonna feel it
Know what you were doing’s wrong
Wow. Fascinating link! Thanks for posting it!
Can’t believe nobody considered the retrofit might accelerate settling...
Delay Delay Delay, move and protect financial assets prior to court judgments.
There must be a political back-story here as well.
SF politicians/inspectors have probably been paid off to keep this farce going—the building should have been condemned and ordered demolished by now.
The law of gravity shall not be broken.

“Crooked towers for crooked libtards 🤪
Seems fitting”
My Nephews in-laws live in that building. Probably the last Conservative couple left in San Francisco. They bought a fixer upper in Sonoma years ago and finally completed the fixer part. I think they are staying there as much as possible in light of the Apt. Building issue.
—” I think the diminishing returns on the value of tall buildings kicks in earlier than city planners are willing to admit.”
A function of height.
As they grow taller the required spaces, mechanical, electrical, elevators, stairs...consume a larger percentage of the total floor area and less income is generated.
That said many will kill for the prestige/ego of the tallest building.

It was a bit of fun and humorous comments...
Now that you mention it, a sour taste in my mouth.
Hi.
They did not listen or understand.
They built their house on sand, not rock.
And the winds came and the water buffeted the house.
And it collapsed.
Heard that somewhere...

I hope there isn’t another earthquake in San Francisco.

Yep.

Cue the “Jeopardy” theme song and pop the corn.
Shouldn’t there have been something in the contract like, “We promise no Jihadists will slam their planes into this building. We also promise this building will not tip over...”
