The XIII Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is ratified. Hereditary chattel slavery is outlawed throughout the country.

I think you have this amendment confused with the Emancipation Proclamation
That was 1862-3, this is 1865.
Soon to be replaced by universal public slavery with the passage of the XVI Amendment.

Sorry, I should have stayed out of this one, have no idea what GrandTorino meant by "June already".
Without secession and the Civil War, slavery would have continued much longer in the United States.
I agree, probably at least another 20 years or more.
Mark Twain very briefly served in a Confederate unit.
