It’s quite common for LD truckers to fall into a haze, because the road just goes on and on.
My neighbor killed himself and severely injured other truck drivers because he probably dozed off. The truck he ran into was an empty flat bed and the bed pushed the cab off of that truck and that truck also was rammed into the truck in front of it. My neighbor’s cab just got demolished.
State troopers here told his wife that he came over a hill and was likely blinded by the sun. I looked on google maps earth view and it was flat corn country and the interstate was straight.
I also saw news articles with pics and noticed the truck he was driving had red painted rims but he used to drive a truck home that had polished Alcoa aluminum rims. It was a new somewhat self driving truck and he bitched about having gone through all that Class A training and now having a truck that drives itself.
I think he got used to that and then they stuck him in an older truck. He probably dozed off because he could do that in the self driver and got used to it.
