Senate GOP caving AGAIN?
FR ^ | Dec 2 | RandFan

It looks like the Senate GOP have caved.

They only need ONE senator to drag this out by denying consent on Friday.

I suggest we start identifying likely senators.

From The Hill:

---

The opposition is significant in the 50-50 Senate, where the filibuster, combined with other arcane rules, empower members of the minority party to stretch a debate for days, if desired. In the case of the continuing resolution, that would push the debate into next week — and cause the government to close down in the meantime.

There were signs on Thursday, however, that such a scenario will likely be avoided. Key Senate Republicans, including Sen. Richard Shelby (Ala.), the ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, have endorsed the short-term funding proposal.

The conservative opponents are signaling an agreement to vote on a vaccine amendment, as long as it needs only 51 votes to pass — a doomed venture that will nonetheless give them political cover to argue they fought the good fight.

And Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), whose party took the brunt of the blame for a 16-day shutdown in 2013, has all but guaranteed there will be no repeat of history this month.

---

KEY SENATORS:

Mumbai Mike Lee (UT): He is indicating a hard line on this

Rand Paul (KY): Willing to go rogue occasionally

Ted Cruz (TX): Another who has shown he can go rogue if feeling strongly.

Roger Marshall (KS): For some reason he feels strongly on this and has promised a hard line.

Feel free to post any others you think might be sympathetic.

If you're a constituent of the above let them know you want them to DENY unanimous consent on the continuing resolution (that means NO DEAL for an Amendment that is sure to fail!)

Lets do this!

Here’s hoping Marsha Blackburn will hold out.

There should be a group of them holding out. Small i know but as you say.. It only takes one.

Procedural gamesmanship is not right. Kill the bill.

This bill spends money in obscene amounts which nobody is accountable for. Republicans love that drug just as much as democrats. Be honest and kill the bill. This isn't a case of managing a cancer. It needs to be cut out and be done with.

The best the GOP could possibly do here is to delay funding for a few days and cause a shutdown that wouldn’t even affect anyones paycheck. They can’t strip measures from the bill. They can’t indefinitely shut down the government. They are really powerless to stop anything that the Democrats have 50 votes for.

You can thank Loon Wood and the dumbs for that.

What exactly does a 2 day temporary shut down accomplish?

Drags it out into next week and also puts them on the record when they have to vote.

Stopping consent IS important

I thought the compromise in September was supposed to be McConnell's grand strategic move to force Schumer to give concessions in December?

Sure does feel weird (but oh so good) sitting on the outside looking in since I’m NO LONGER part of the Rep Party (left the party last December after being a registered Republican since 1988). To watch the Lucy Charlie Brown and the football show time and again and watch people still believing that the Republicans are going to actually stand on principle is a complete joke!!

We’ve been doing this for about 13 years (failing to pass an annual budget), requiring this silly debt ceiling dance over already approved spending about 4 times a year.

There have been several shutdowns.

What has happened as a result?

Nothing.

The CR is nothing. Absolutely nothing.

The impending debt ceiling fight is everything.

It’s not caving when you give them what you really wanted to give them. What they do is really PR spin, telling us they really didn’t want to but gosh darned it not one of us was able to raise his hand to stop it... such bad luck. Then they go have drinks together and laugh at how they did it to us again.
