unar New Year is just about here: It's the time for food, family, and traditions. And...dumplings. Because what better way is there to celebrate? Indeed, in Chinese culture, jiaozi, or steamed dumplings, are typically folded and eaten on New Year's Eve; they're said to symbolize luck and prosperity for the year ahead. They also symbolize deliciousness.
I, myself, am an equal-opportunity dumpling eater, year-round. But for some reason, making dumplings at home has never really occurred to me, but it's actually the perfect weekend project. It's a time investment, sure, but so are those sweet rolls I made this past spring, and that homemade whole-wheat tagliatelle. And there's a huge upside: At home, I can put just about whatever I want in them, steam or fry them exactly to my preference, and freeze them for whenever a dumpling craving hits (they'll probably run out soon). Best of all, dumpling-pleating seems like possibly the most therapeutic kitchen task imaginable, and I could always use a little chill.
So in the spirit of good luck and prosperity this Lunar New Year and beyond (and a satisfying weekend project, to boot), I'm happy to present 32 top-notch dumpling recipes: from pierogies to ravioli, gyoza to samosas.

I applaud you for keeping tradition alive, there is no culture that does not adore it.
no one does it but I would sneak some kielbasa meat into them with cheese and onions. Yow!
for Christmas we have Kolache here and it is from Russia, not Czech.
I only find it here. not a dumpling, a nutroll slathered in butter with coffee.
Soooo.. good!!
I love pork potstickers and homemade 5 cheese ravioli.
everybody loves dumplings!
Yep - Love them all! Now I’m gonna have to make one of them for dinner tomorrow ... but which? ... Empanadas? Gyoza? Ravioli type? ...
All of them!
...and here its a jelly cookie.
The kids, from very little on, have always loved Bavarian Wedding Soup. It was primarily for the dumplings but they were fascinated by the tiny Nuremburg style bratwurst too as we normally only eat the regular fat style ones. Had to always be from scratch and no shortcuts.
When Pa was alive I used to make Coburg potatoe dumplings to go with his ochsenzunge. Havent done that in years either.
Now Ive got the bug.
All day, 20 minutes....
And do you make the face too?
There is a Polish woman that brings over her pierogi occasionally and she always makes the face.
When they disappear there is a strange mixture of emotions, its elation and pride that everyone enjoyed them so much tinged with a slight bit of depression that she spent so much time making something that no longer exists.
Hope you feel well soon
LOL, no. Not “the cooties”, the urge to get to making some dumplings. But thanks anyway.
