Electric cars are probably only economical with coal or nuclear-based electricity at the present time. Green energy will have to be heavily rationed. I think that is the goal.
Making the masses walk is a major goal.
Of course the local party boss will have an official equivalent of a Trabant.
Even Elon Musk has said you can’t replace all ICE cars with electrics without a massive upgrade in generation capacity and to the transmission and distribution grid. And none of the people pushing electrics are talking about that.

Ford is working on a liquid cooled charging cable so you can pump more current, faster, into your car.
Problem #1> current cars have current wires. Therefore you will melt your car while charging.
Problem #2> moar tech that fails that is expensive to fix. See BMW and Merceedes
They were kind of a harmless novelty, back in the ‘90s. George Wendt’s brother was one of my brother’s neighbors. He had a couple of them, and was a big advocate. The implications of having a national fleet of them haven’t been thoroughly thought out by consumers. I think the control freaks know exactly what they’re doing, though.
