Is Crisco lard? I’ve heard of it, but always thought it was to lard what margarine is to butter.

Crisco is shortening.....from vegetables.

Okay....more info than we ever wanted, on pie crust making....this article (and, short vid, at link) explains all the different fats you can use, and, which one they prefer, for flaky pie crusts....
