Dozens of customers who stopped for a drink at Britain’s highest altitude pub got a longer stay than they bargained for, after the building was cut off by a blizzard.
Sixty-one people woke up Monday after their third night at the Tan Hill Inn in the Yorkshire Dales, 270 miles (435 kilometers) north of London. They have been unable to leave since Friday, when a late autumn storm brought snow and heavy winds that felled power cables and blocked roads.

Perhaps 20 years ago we had an ice storm in Seattle. We hunkered down in our basement with the power out but a wood stove to stay warm, lanterns, etc.
The elderly neighbor lady ended up staying with us and slept in the fold-out couch with my wife, and me and the kids on the floor. We had plenty of food for the 6 days without power.
Except I didn’t have ANY marshmallows!! I took my 4x4 truck to the store and bought ONLY marshmallows (to make a point). The check-out gal looked at me funny.
“I can’t believe that I was prepared for this but didn’t have any marshmallows!”

In 1991, I was stuck in an I-80 truck stop near LaPorte, IN for 12 hours while the lake effect snow piled up to about 20 inches. Truckers and I smoked all of our cigarettes and drank coffee and told stories about life. As I recall, it was the first time someone talked about GPS on a big rig. Nice memory.

Welsh rarebit and shepherd's pie aren't bad if they are made properly.
The number of days one is snowed in a British pub has more to do with when the alcohol runs out or the ability to find the door after drinking heavily than it does with the actual weather conditions, I suspect.
Imagine the bar tabs these folks ran up!
And English Breakfast is darn good!
