The couple’s chilling disappearance has prompted large-scale searches and desperate pleas from family.If somebody disappears is it always chilling? Was there a bloody knife found with the shotgun? Was a dog found in the backyard chewing on a severed hand?

I read a couple of Brown’s books, way back when. They got me interested in tracking, not that I ever got really good at it.
When I was in college I heard a read about a rash of sightings of the Jersey Devil that took place over a full week in 1909 near my hope town in South Jersey. Story was scant on detail but I was curious and since I was at Rutgers where I know they have extensive microfilm collections of old New Jersey newspapers I did some digging. I found all of the old news articles which included statements from the eye witnesses. Really interesting. Animals eviscerated, weird footprints, cops shooting at strange thing that flew off with large leathery bat-like wings, etc. Mass hysteria? Maybe. Hillary Clinton traveling to the past? Certainly possible. But whatever it was those old articles made for some really interesting reading.

Born and raised in the Pine Barrens. It does tend to be a dumping ground for organized crime. Particularly grizzled one last year. Guy went out hunting. Not sure if he messed with someone’s seat but when they found him he was beaten and then gutted. At least that is what the coroner said.
I read these things too. The Jersey Devil stuff really is interesting and not that easily tossed off. Crazy as the story is.
